i pity the staff working on the front desk in this hotel. Construction starts at 10 and finishes at 5 - Mostly aided by a jack hammer. When checking in we couldnt hear the reception girl speaking to us, and she was less than a metre away. She was doing her best to pretend that she couldnt hear the noise, but in the end just said"im so sorry, it will finish at 5pm" She put us on the 4th floor, but we could still hear the noise! That aside, the hotel is very comfortable. We were in a newly refurbished room and I couldnt fault it. 10 minute walk to all the touristy sights. we had a great view of the canal from our window. Im sure when the construction is finished it will be even better.

We were visiting Reims for a weekend of sightseeing and of course visiting Champagne Houses. We chose the Mercure for its location, plus it had a car park, they had a reasonable deal, and a Mercure usually assures a decent standard of hotel.

The location is about 5-10 minutes walk from the city centre, across the road from the Canal with it's dog walkers and joggers. We were driving and didn't have a problem finding the hotel using SatNav. There are a few car parking spaces right outside the front door, but the entrance to the very secure underground car park is around the side. This costs €12 per night, but we were not actually charged although they certainly knew that we had a car as a code is required to exit.

The hotel is in the process of being refurbished and our room had already been done. It was excellent, nice decor, TV, kettle/tea/coffee, fridge, although perhaps the room seemed a bit small but maybe because the bed was big ! Great bathroom with walk-in shower that had water from the ceiling.

Breakfast was great, almost everything you could want, but this is France so don't expect Full English, but scrambled eggs, streaky bacon, sausage, fruit, ham, cheese, pastries etc etc. Fantastic. I was very impressed by a French couple who ordered Champagne with their breakfast at 10.30am on a Sunday morning !

Apart from breakfast we didn't use the restaurant so cannot comment.

Reims is Champagne City, so the hotel has bottles for sale, and in the lobby there was a special deal of cases of Jaquart containing 6 bottles and 6 glasses, At €109 this was quite good, so I bought one, but you do need a car to get it home !

My only minor complaint is that on checking out the young lady on reception was having to deal with a very very long telephone call instead of dealing with us. I have stayed here previously, and both occasions I found the staff to be excellent. Professional, efficient and helpful.

We prepaid €183.00 for two nights including breakfast. Not remarkably cheap, but then this is a Mercure hotel. There is a Campanile Hotel right next door, but surprisingly this was a similar price. Value for money really depends upon the rate you can get, but the hotel itself is almost faultless and certainly recommended.
.

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook the canal, which is nice. Some other also have a Cathedral view.

After reading some horrendous reviews on TripAdvisor we were very concerned. We were pleasantly surprised! Yes, there was major renovations going on between 9-5 and the rooms shake! There is no escaping the noise, so if you need to nap or be in the hotel during the day, stay somewhere else for sure. The management made no apologies or gave a thing in the way of compensation as many do when you are inconvenienced either.
However, the hotel is conveniently located for sure. Walking distance to the city center and champagne houses, and the canal is across the street.
Request a remodeled room
As a health professional I do not understand nor support the toilet in a separate room from the sink, that this hotel and so many in France seem to embrace. Why?? It is hard enough to get people to wash their hands EVERY time they use it, why make it so hard? Especially in the middle of the night? All this does is contribute to the spread of disease.
All I can say is bring hand sanitizer and use it often in France!
The food was decent and the breakfast was good.

Room Tip: Request a newly remodeled room as far away from the loud construction as possible

we stayed in this hotel for 3 nights early September as part of a Railbookers holiday (I highly recommend Railbookers as travelling by train was a great way to arrive refreshed in France) at the time of our arrival the hotel was undergoing refurbishment so we were a bit alarmed at the amount of noise and the obvious work going on, to which we had not been warned. However our room was large, clean and functional. The location for the centre and the cathedral could not have been better. The buffet style breakfast included in our deal was fabulous - and the fact that you this did not close until 11.00 a.m. even better. If you had wanted to it would have been easy to eat late and miss lunch. The bar in the evening was good and the staff from receiption to cleaners to waiting staff some of the most helpful I have ever encounted in France.
Well Done Mercure. We would certainly go back and stay here again.

A good hotel for a short stay in Rheims or a stop-over, which is what we used it for. Close to the cathedral and city centre and a short walk to the canal. Clean and smart with a good choice for breakfast and professional staff. Free wifi access.

The hotel is a Mercure standard hotel located about 10 mins walk away from the famous Reims Notre-Dame Cathedrale. It is located across a scenic canal. The hotel has a bar and restaurant on a mezzanine floor. The food was OK. The breakfast was typical continental buffet. Complimentary wifi connection was good.

Some reviewers have commented that this hotel is dated, while more recent ones have reported that it is being renovated. Both are correct, but when the builders have completed their task the interior should be elegant and modern and the work in progress did not interfere with our stay.
Our room had everything needed for an overnight stay and the restaurant provided a good evening meal and the usual excellent Mercure buffet breakfast.
Well situated for the cathedral and a whole road of restaurants ~ of varying quality.
We were lucky to get one of the four free parking places right by the entrance.
