“good value”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

The food was excellent. The diver scallops and the filet of boeuf were both beautifully presented. There is a very good wine list also.

“Good, but not extraordinary”
Reviewed December 1, 2011

We had a good meal at Le Jamin, but it was not extraordinary, certainly not deserving of the raves other folks have given it nor did I think it worth the price. Perhaps, it being a Tuesday on the first week of school the main chef was taking time off?

The amuse bouche, a courgette soup, was incredibly salty to the point of unedible. the rest of the meal was pleasant enough, if not particularly interesting or imaginative. the desserts were nice. the wine was expensive.

“Wonderful French cuisine, friendly and helpful service at great price”
Reviewed July 26, 2011

We pre booked this meal for a Tuesday evening at 2030 ( on advice of previous reviewers) and were not dissapointed. We had difficulty understanding the starters in particular ( full menu in French) but could manage the rest of the menu. I explained to Dorian the waiter that we were struggling and he cheerfully explained, with mime, as well as words until we understood every starter on the menu ( frog was particularly amusing) My husband had foie gras and I had a superb salad with bacon, asparagus and the freshes cheese (similar to fresh ricotta) ever. We both had the lamb which was superb with mixed super fresh vegetables. My huband had a champagne dessert with brandy and I had a selection of sorbets with fruit. all beautifully presented and delicious. we had aperatifs, a liquer coffee and 2 bottles of champagne ( still celebrating my husband's birthday from previous day) the bill for all this was 150 euro.
Le Jamin is closed Sunday and Monday and was not full on the Tuesday but had plenty of people eating including children - mainly French from what we saw - it would probably seat around 50 people. It was scrupulousy clean - especially the toilets, quite formal and comfortable the cook ( and owner) came out to meet us and Dorian was charming and efficient throughout. We asked what time thay closed and was told 'when the guests have left'. I would highly recommed this restaurant which is a short distance from the Cathederal, we took a taxi from the Mercure Cathederal which cost about 15 euro (allowing that taxis are particularly expensive in Reims) We will definitely return if in Reims.
