During a one night stay in Epernay wanted a nice relaxing meal. Called on the off chance at La Cave and was made so welcome. Good English speaking waiter. We took the 19 Euro menu, a bottle of local champagne and really enjoyed the meal and environment. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

Had a salad with Lamb's tongue for starter, chicken for main and cheese for desert. Once again highly recommend.

Great food of the fixed price menu. Epernay is quite expensive to eat out but this restaurant offered good value, central location and fabulous food!

The exterior of this restaurant looks a bit tacky and not very inviting, however this belies the interior, which has pleasant décor and is quite elegant. Given that some have complained in their reviews about bookings being 'lost', I entered with a little trepidation, but there was no need to worry, as our booking was immediately identified and we were escorted to our table.

The tables are a little too close together, but thankfully the table next to ours remained empty, so our privacy level was better than for others. The menu offers a good range of dishes and the Champagnes offered are numerous. Once we had ordered, we were provided with some toast and rillettes. The oysters I had for starter were wonderfully sweet, but I was a little disappointed that there was only lemon to put on them - I prefer mignonette. The lamb kidneys that followed were still pink and tender, but the mustard sauce was a little light on flavour.

The service was a bit aloof and a bit too quickly paced - unusual for a French restaurant - but of course that it is designed to keep a steady turn over of tables and there was a constant stream of clientele while we were there.

This is not a gourmet dining experience, but it does provide good food and reasonable service. I would be willing to dine here again - although given the number of other restaurants in town, think I would try a couple of others first.

Putting aside the huge champagne selection, even for a restaurant called La Cave a Champagne, this was a great choice. We hadn't booked and managed to get a table for dinner, while the restaurant quickly filled up around us. The selection of menus was easily navigated, and the most basic - at 19 euros each - was excellent in both price and quality. Artichoke hearts with snails in champagne sauce, followed by aguillettes of beef and then cheeses, all of which were absolutely spot on.

The service was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere very pleasant and the food simply amazing. Highly recommended.
