“This place is Special a real manoir of great charm!”
Reviewed July 26, 2011

We arrived at the electric gates in the middle of Ay whereupon Madam Leclercq appeared at the front door of the large period house signalling that she would open the gates for us and from that moment on you drive into a world of charm, yes, this place is really aptly named!
By the time we had driven to the back of the property she was there to greet us properly and you realise very quickly that this is not just a chambre d'hote but her wonderful home!
we were shown inside to the kitchen come breakfast room where our room was written on a blackboard with the time that we had asked for breakfast. We then asked about places to eat and she looked after everything, the restaurant booking, the taxi etc.we then went to the garden and were shown the summerhouse complete with tea & coffee making facilities, cups, plates, cutlery and wine glasses should you wish to take time in the garden with a drink or indeed if you want to arrange your own dinner from the supplies you have collected on your travels.
Our room was on the 1st floor and was just superb, decorated in the style of the house it was extremely clean, light and airy with first class furnishings and fittings.
There was a seperate toilet and a very large shower and washroom, again spotlessly clean.
The bed was large and comfortable and it should come as no surprise that the place was completely full every room booked and i gather that is mainly the case.
Breakfast just continued with the quality we had come to expect with this place, no buffet here but Madame serving you each plate of fruit, very good Bayonne ham, cheese, croissants, pan du chocolat, preserves, honey and lovely fresh bread. Fruit juce and tea/coffee also brought to the table.
Lastly not only is Le Manoir des Charmes exactly that but so is the lovely lady who owns and runs it with justifiable pride!!
We have stayed in many hotels of varying prices and classes from the downright cheap to the stupidly expensive and found a mixture of good bad and indifferent. This place however really does "do what is says on the can" Wonderful we can't wait to return on our next trip to Champagne

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at Le Manoir des Charmes in June 2011. The manor house, rooms and gardens are immaculate. Ivana is a gracious hostess and prides herself on interior decorating and her attention to detail is evident everywhere. The website photographs reflect the property acurately. The B&B rooms are in the renovated stable attached at the rear of the manor house and each room has its own private entrance off the garden and secure car park. Breakfast is taken in the conservatory/breakfast room in the main house and is served at a large grand table set beautifully with silver, linen napkins and fine china. We each had freshly prepared fruit, muesli, natural yogurt, coissant, bagette with butter and jam and freshly brewed coffee or tea. Unfortunately it rained for the entire 3 days and we were unable to take advantage of sitting in the garden in the evenings. There is a 'summer house' (very basic) at the end of the garden where guests can make tea/coffee and use the refridgerator for perishibles. Our bedroom was spotless and comfortable and the large white bathroom was complete with large fluffy white towels. The wc was separate from the bathroom. Ay is a very small village about 20 mins drive from Epernay with only 2 restaurants and one was closed. Whilst Epernay is famous for The Avenue De Champagne which has some 3 of the famous champagne houses, the rest of Epernay was quite ordinary compared to other towns we have seen so far. Many blocks of concrete apartments out of character with the rest of the historical area. In contrast however, Reims was full of history, charm and attractions and many working champagne houses with more realistic tours. We visited Taittinger, Pommery and Villa Demoiselle, Musee de la Reddition where the WW2 surrender treaty was signed. Despite our lack of french, Ivana was very patient and shared maps and many touring suggestions with us. Wifi did not work in our room, only the breakfast area but not well.

Spent one night here and would love to have stayed longer! This house is perfection, like something out of an interiors magazine, so stylish and beautifully decorated. Probably one the best breakfasts away from home, lovely fresh fruit, breads, croissants and home made jams, nothing compared for the rest of the holiday! Worth mentioning that it's situated in the sleepy village of Ay around 3 or 4 miles from from Epernay. We cycled there in the afternoon but didn't bother to go back at night as we found a good restaurant within walking distance. Could have done with a shower curtain but that would only have spoiled the look.

This is the second review I am writing about this lovely place. My husband and I stayed there for the first time in 2007 and we loved so much that we decided to return. It was great and I think even better than the first time because we had a room with a view of the beautiful vineyards near to the Manoir. The room is beautifully decorated, very peaceful, a real charm, as it is the whole property. Breakfast is really nice, fresh juice and delicious cheeses and ham, pastries, bread and homemade fruit tart, among other things. Ivana the hostess is just lovely.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and I definitely recommend it! I wish to come back and stay there again.

We spent two nights here while visiting the Champagne area. Ay is a reasonable distance from Epernay and we did walk there once, There are plenty of Champagne houses in Ay and a couple of good restuarants. One of the highlights of our stay at Le Manoir was the wonderful breakfast. The owners are charming as are the new rooms which were clean and very well presented. There is off street parking and it is very quiet.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights whilst sampling the delights of Champagne. The rooms are just beautiful, spotlessly clean and very tastefully furnished in real French style. Ivana and her husband are charming, they make you feel very welcome from the moment you arrive and Ivana is only to pleased to book restaurants etc and give advice. This Chambre d'Hote has a charming garden with a summer house where there is complentary tea and coffee and a fridge to chill your recently purchased Champagne! Breakfast is served in a beautiful conservatory style room, with fresh cheeses and ham, pastries, bread and homemade fruit tart. All in all we thoroughly recommend this establishment and we will certainly be returning with our friends.

As many other reviewers have pointed out, Le Manoir is just what any great B&B should be - a welcoming host, clean and cozy room, and a breakfast that you would really look forward to. We just stayed there for one night and didn't have a chance to enjoy a tea or a glass of champagne at the garden house which was a pity.
