“Great for pictures”

The outside of this facility makes a great picture. We didn't have time for a tour, but the opportunity was promising and the sample champagne was pleasant.

“Fascinating tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

We stumbled upon this champagne house on a rainy fall day. The town was quiet and so was Castellane. Walking in, we weren't too sure what to expect, since there was only one other couple in the massive tasting room, but we quickly paid our E10 joined the English tour that was about to start. Our guide gave a great tour and learning the history (like in-wall cement tanks) and seeing the tunnels (4 miles, dug by hand) was my favorite part. The tour ended with a tasting of their Brut. Yum! The only down side of the whole thing was that no photos were allowed on the tour (and for once I obeyed this rule!) I wish I had pictures of it all!

“Really good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2013

Really enjoyed this tour, others just show you the cellar but they take you around the actual factory too, so you get to so much more than in other tours. Champagne is lovely and they were nice enough to let us try their vintage free.

“Highly informative Champagne visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

The guided tour of the cave was very interesting and was done by a real guide whose English was really good. They also offer tours in French and German.

Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, she was able to explain in detail about the champagne making process, and quickly provided simple answers to our questions. One of the things we appreciated the most was that the guide was actually fluent in English; not just someone who knows how to make simple sentences for the sake of the tour. As such, she was able to really provide key explanations that helped us really understand what we were seeing.

But even before going on the guided tour, the museum provides a lot of visual insight into Champagne; the region and the drink.

The price of the ticket included the guided tour of the cave, the visit of the museum, and a glass of their Champagne.

We also did the visit of the Mercier Champagne Cave, but we would recommend De Castellane as it was more interesting and less commercial.

“Different to the rest”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

Having visited a few wineries and also Mercier in Epernay, the tour at Castellane was refreshing. We were able to see the old machinery but also champagne in the final processes of being made. The tour guide lacked oratory skills as he clearly was a student employee but that didn't detract from a precise and interesting tour.
