“Our third visit...”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for two nights, our third visit in a year. Once again we stayed in the suite "Les Riches Roses", above the tasting room but furthest from the road.

The suite is comfortable furnished but we noticed the bathrobes and slippers avialble on previous stays were absent, not that it was big deal for us.

The room was still feeling relatively fresh with plenty of cutlery etc to keep you self-suffciient. The prices have risen a bit since our first stay but this is an excellent location with secure off-road parking. There aren't many lodgings on the famous Avenue de Champagne.

Breakfast is expensive and since our first stay have gone without, preferring to bring our own or grab something from the boulangerie on our way to the first tasting of the day.

We use this as a base when exploring the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs as Epernay is ideally situated in the middle of these three vineyard regions. We also have one of our favourite champagne houses (alas not this one) and restaurants in the town.

Maxime is always on hand for a friendly chat and can help with bookings if you wish and is a real credit to the company.

It is more than likely that we will stay here again next year!

Room Tip: Traffic noise can be a little invasive so choose one of the rooms further from the road if this is a...

We stayed 3 nights at Champagne Andre Bergere. I selected it after reading all the wonderful reviews and we arrived expecting a great deal. On too many fronts we left feeling disappointed.

Firstly the pluses. The staff were very friendly and obliging. Secondly, the location is great - right on the Avenue de Champagne with everything within walking distance.

The areas of disappointment - our room fronted the Avenue, the noise of the traffic on the cobblestones was deafening. Directly opposite the property is a college that starts at around 7.45am. College students the world over can be very noisy, and they were. The room, whilst functional, could in no way be described as luxurious, comfortable yes, luxurious no. During our 3 night stay it was not serviced on any day.

Finally, the breakfasts were rather average. Tea and coffee selections weren't replenished during the 3 night stay. So too yogurt. Cold meat was not to be seen on any day and cheese was very limited, by our last morning there were individual serves between 4 !

We arrived with high expectations and left rather disappointed - on too many fronts it fell well short of expectations and we wondered about the differences between our experiences and that of other reviewers.

My final test - would I stay here again, probably not.

If, like us, you were impressed with the previous reviews (and this review is the first that has deviated from excellent or very good) and decide to give them the benefit of the doubt, then be rigorous in room selection. Otherwise look elsewhere.

Ok, it's not cheap, but it is worthwhile! The location and surroundings are immaculate! The rooms spacious and luxurious. The bathroom is well equiped, although not very big. The reception by Annaelle and Maxime is welcoming, as well as the further information they share with you and help they give you in looking for nice restaurants and other sites to visit. Finally, their champagne is very tastfull, aspecially the Tentation.

Stayed here for one night in a beautiful room. Fabulous silk furnishings with antique furniture. A truly lovely elegant house. Breakfast was served in a private room with great fresh breads etc. Staff were helpful and pleasant. A must is the tour of the Moët house and the cellars. Very informative and just down the road. Again the staffed were on hand to book this. The champagne in Andre Bergere tasting room also well worth the visit.

Stayed here for one night while visiting champagne houses in the region. The location is great - right on the famous Ave de Champagne - and they have secure parking. Its a beautiful property and some real thought has gone into the decor.

The only reason they dropped a star is because the welcome and general service was not in line with the rest of our experience. Also the tasting we did was not as good as one we had a few doors down at Champagne Paul-Etienne St Germain. The lady did not bother telling us the history of the champagne and only briefly responded to the questions we had.

It seemed as if the place was being run by just 3 people so while I can tolerate them having to multitask, I think it would have been a perfect experience if they were a bit more attentive.

Nonetheless, this place is wholly recommended and I wouldn't need to look anywhere else next time I visit Epernay.

Found this room based upon Tripadvisor reviews. The suite (Les Jol.) we stayed in was huge. The price was similar to our much smaller rooms throughout our trip. The rooms are on the 2nd floor next to their tasting room. When we arrived, we had a free bottle of their great Champagne. Breakfast is continental and is provided on a table outside of your room. You can eat whenever you wake up. Nothing special but a good start to the day. The location is great. It is within walking distance to all the Champagne houses on Avenue de Champagne, including Moet and Mercier. Free internet and large comfortable bed. Car parking is within their locked gates - they give you a gate opener. Be sure to arrive before 6 pm or call them.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay in Andre Bergere Champagne House. The accommodation is just so civilised and furnishings of the highest quality and beautiful to look at. Our little Westie was also welcome. Max was exceptionally helpful particularly with restaurant reservations. I would love to go back.
