Our party of 4 gents booked a table at Chez Max whilst travelling up from Italy in the car the same day. We had a great welcome from Frank the owner and maitre'd when we arrived and all four of us had the 28 Euro four course menu. Great '3 pot' fish and wild mushroom starters. Great steak for main followed by cheese board with wide selection (and no limit on number of choices if you promised to eat it!). Creme brulee, chocolate torte and floating island desserts were all good. Nice choice of champagnes (of course!) and wines plus a complimentary digestif made for a great meal and evening. Frank is only the third owner since opened in 1946 and he provides great service and sources some great ingredients. Dated decor yes, very French yes and great service yes.
