“Will be back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

The hotel is literally a one minute walk from the Avenue de Champagne and if that's not why you're in Epernay then I don't know what you're doing visiting! Parking on the street requires topping up the meter but a little under 5 Euros got me parking from 9am to 3:00pm - not a huge hardship to make sure I came back (or left) by then but if you are staying longer then there is a car park 50m walk away. The receptionist could not have been nicer to us - I don't speak French but at least I give it a go ......she put me out of my misery by speaking impeccable English and once explaining everything I needed to know about the hotel, she went on to give us recommendations for dinner that were walking distance. After looking these up on the complimentary Wi-Fi we made a choice and she helpfully phoned through a reservation for us. The room was beautiful and the shower was enormous. Yes, the floorboards creak - if you can't put up with the "character" of an old house, go book into a Holiday inn - you don't belong here!

We opted not to have breakfast here so have no comment on this. The only, single negative comment that I have about this hotel is that the coffee in the room is charged for - yes, it's a Nespresso machine, but I really think that a cup of coffee could be thrown in for free .........

Lastly, I have to recommend a trip downstairs to the Champagne bar that is under the hotel - we had a great time exploring unusual champagnes from the local area that you can buy by the glass - a different 9 growers are showcased each week and it's a very reasonable way to experience something different. Hat's off to Damian for being a great host for a couple of hours and closing much later than he should have :-)

Room Tip: We had a Mathusalem room and have absolutely no complaints.

A charming hotel conveniently located, close to everything. The hotel has a lovely feel about it and the staff helpful and welcoming. Our room was nicely decorated and comfortable. I had read about noisy rooms and during the day we could hear footsteps above us but heard nothing during the night. Breakfast was adequate and all that we wanted. The staff seem very interested in continuing to improve the experience for guests. Would recommend this hotel.

Stayed here for another visit to this fantastic region of France. The staff is friendly, the rooms are large by Frence standards, and the beds are very comfortable. Hotel is centrally located in Epernay. Would come again.

the Hotel is very well situated and walking distance to Avenue Champagne where all the major champagne Houses are. Parking was a bit difficult as you had to find on on the road and pay for the meter during the day. it was disappointing that the Spa was not operational, they were looking for someone to come and run it as the previous person had left.
the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
A good average hotel that is well situated to explore the area. Epernay is quite small though and if you are looking for a night out on the town this one is rather quiet, we were happy with that though.

Hotel was an easy walk with luggage from the train station if you head straight ahead across the squares and do not make any turns. The hotel is on a nondescript street, a litle tricky to spot until you come upon it. The front desk receptionist seemed to run the whole place - she checked us in, acted as a concierge and answered our questions about the area, and we were surprised to see her also serving breakfast too the following morning. She was very helpful and friendly. We had a standard double room, which had plenty of space to move around and store luggage. We arrived early, around 11am, and were told "definitely no check-in until 3pm." They held our luggage for us while we walked around the town. The Avenue de Champagne was a little disappointing for us. We thought we could do some champagne tasting there, but all the big houses were closed, with bars across the entrance gates, even though it was Saturday. We found one small place that was offering tastings outside, which was a pleasant stop. We tried to tour Moet & Chandon, but didn't know you needed advance reservations, so were disappointed that they somewhat rudely turned us away. It didn't take too long to walk around the town and we found a couple of places to have drinks and then dinner, but then there wasn't anything else to do. if we had rented a car, we were told we could have visited some of the nearby towns that offered tours and tastings. We found the breakfast at the hotel to be fine and just enough food, but a little pricey. All in all, an OK town, but would probably opt to spend an extra day in Paris next time instead.

Overall it was a pleasant stay however there were a few things that stop me from giving a 4 star rating. Melanie and Melissa were great, very helpful and accommodating. The location is good, walking distance to the train station and Champagne Houses. Our standard room had a bath, but our first morning we ran out of hot water. Internet is free, bed very comfy.
Housekeeping however, let themselves into our room twice, when the "do not disturb" sign was on, without even a knock. Not great since there is another review with the same problem...
Breakfast is on the light side, for 15 Euro you would expect more. The eggs were over-cooked  also.
The rooms are noisy, we stayed on the 2nd floor and you can hear the guests above. Floor boards in all rooms make the noise quite loud. You also have to pay 6 Euro if you want to use the coffee machine in the room (???).
Beware any travelers wanting to change money in Epernay - it appears that there are no money changers in this town! Would only recommend a one night stay here, after a couple of Champagne houses and lunch, there isn't much else to do.

Room Tip: Take a room on the top floor!
