Premiere Classe Epernay
Ranked #3 of 14 Hotels in Epernay
Reviewed August 30, 2012

We booked and paid for this hotel through a very popular hotel internet site and received an email to confirm that we had paid for the room in full. Upon reaching the hotel after a 9 hour drive, the unhelpful manager informed us that he had the reservation but that the room had not been paid for. I showed him the email but he was not interested and insisted that we paid for the room. So we paid. The room itself was perfect for what we wanted and the hotel itself was within easy walking distance (10mins) of the town centre. Sleep was excellent and the room was very quiet even though we were opposite the lift. Breakfast was good value for money at 4.90 euros each although it did seem odd not having a plate. When we returned home our bank statements confirmed that we had paid twice for the room so please dont be had over by their insistence that you havent paid when you have.....

We have just returned from a week in France and stopped off at this hotel on our way to the Jura. We'd read the good reviews on here and the hotel didn't disappoint. The room was very tiny, as others had commented on, but this doesn't matter if you're just in it to sleep. It fit in a very large double bed (king size probably, minimum!) and a couple of little bedside tables. My daughter was thrilled to sleep in the overhead bunk bed too so it's a great choice for families.

The bathroom was extremely small. This at first looked like it might present a problem (the shower was a foot away from the toilet) but the plastic design helps to capture the water so you don't end up flooding the entire bathroom (which only fits one person at a time, so not a huge space to flood!).

We walked into Epernay for a meal and it was only ten minutes to a good restaurant. The walk is pleasant and you can see a fair amount of the town centre, complete with the various champagne bars where you can do a tasting. It's worth a try!

The breakfast the next morning was fine. Knives would have been nice to spread jam onto croissants (we had to use bizarre spoon things) but this wasn't a major problem. We were more than happy with our experience and would stay again, especially after I recently saw a Travelodge in the UK that looked like a prison camp in comparison and was miles more expensive. Admittedly you wouldn't want to stay there longer than a couple of nights but for stopovers you can't do much better on a budget.

For the price you really can't do better than this budget hotel. Yes it is in an industrial area and yes the bathrooms are small but what do you expect at this price. It was clean, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was perfectly adequate. It is only a short walk into town, about ten minutes and the rooms even have air conditioning. I have not stayed in many budget hotels but this was by far the best.

A hotel that is good value for money. Nothing glamorous about it but easy access, good parking, it is 5-10 min walking distance from the centre, clean sufficiently big rooms, OK breakfast (bread, coffee/tea, yogurth etc). Would be great if all staff knew some English and/or German but apart from that a good choice if you don't want to spend much money and get an OK stay in Champagne.

We stayed here for 3 nights (02 July to 05 July 2012). We selected the hotel based on the reviews on trip advisor, the price and the fact that most of the other hotels didn't have any availability (because, we suspect, the tour de france was going through Epernay).

The hotel it a little out of the centre of town, and looked more closer to the industrial area. I am not sure how people say that it was 10 minutes walk into town. We didn't try to walk as we had a car, and it didn't look that close to walk into town.

We had a quadruple room with 3 normal beds and a bunk bed. The room was basic with a small desk and a TV and nothing else. No coffee makers or anything like that. The bathroom was minute. No bath, just a shower. It is a pod styled bathroom (similar to what you would find on a cruise liner). With the shower curtain closed it was very had to maneuver and the entire bathroom got wet. Not very pleasant.

The room was small, but clean and there was no noise or anything. It did smell of cigarette smoke though even though it was a non-smoking room. The window opened which was nice but there is an air conditioner. Our view from the window was the train yard (though it was an engineering place or something - no noise and not like a train station) and also some vineyards.

The breakfast cost 5 EURO per person and consisted of some toast and a coffee machine. Not worth it as we bought better food and more variety in town.

Overall, the kids enjoyed the bunk bed, we slept comfortably and the room was cleaned daily.

We wouldn't recommend this hotel as a long stay hotel - maybe a night and not for touring as it is not that close to town (well from what we could figure out). If you are looking for a place for a one-night stop-over then it is perfect, otherwise there are better places more central.

We walked to town from here in 10 minutes, which was great because we wanted to spend all our money drinking champagne and not having to drive afterwards. Couldn't have been better. Super simple room with a strange motor-home feel to it, but it was nice and clean and the service was really friendly and informative.

We stayed at a DIFFERENT Premiere class hotel in Reims the next night which was NOTHING like this place, it was dirty, had a moldy smell mixed with smoke. We stayed there without checking tripadvisor because of our pleasant night the night before, big mistake.

Apart from the rooms being small, we have no complaints at all about our stopover. This is an excellent new budget hotel and we would stay again. We asked for and got quiet rooms with a nice view of the vineyards, third floor overlooking the carpark.
