“Ok for one night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

We stayed for one night on our trip to Loire Valley as a stop-over.

The receptionist spoke perfect British-English, which was surprising so we had no problem in communication. He was very helpful and friendly.

The room was standard, not much to expect. The railway station was in front of the hotel, yet still quiet. The hotel was not very close to the old town, we preferred to drive there.

Wi-fi was free in the room, which was great.

Parking was easy in front of the hotel for a daily base of 8 euros.

Tours is not the best place to stay while visiting Loire valley, there's not much to see in the city.

As others have said although it is near the railway station it is very quiet. Ten minute walk from bars and restaurants. Friendly, helpful reception and free computer for guests' use in reception. Good size room and free parking. Nice lounge/bar area. Unfortunately it poured with rain the 24 hours we were in Tours but that was not their fault!!! However, did not stop us exploring the town and beautiful buildings.

Room Tip: As for one of their larger rooms

Arrived to a warm welcome, and very polite member of staff. Room was very clean and arranged in the typical format you can expect from this type of hotel. Free parking and wifi is a must and of course.... they had it covered. Give it a go, it's not in a scenic part of town but inside is very nice.

In line with the hotel name, it is handy for the railway station, particularly if you cut through the side exit from the station. This is one of the hotels in Tours that I use fairly regularly for business and like all Mercures the rooms are OK and the service is friendly and helpful.

Near the train station but the room size is small. Also TV only have 2 English Channel, rest is in France.

Even though near train station, you can't really hear the train unless you open the windows. I don't quite like the power saving light option. Every time lift door open to a dark corridor and I need to wave hand to activate the light!

We stayed here overnight in order to explore the city of Tours. It is next to the railway line but the efficent sound-proofing resulted in a good night's sleep. We enjoyed being able to park our car for free and walk into town. The only downside for us was that there wasn't a restaurant or much of a lounge but there are plenty of bars and brasseries towards the centre of the town. The word 'efficient' sums it up.

The staff on reception were very efficient and friendly. the bedooms was large and beds were very comfortable, with penty of pillows. The w.c. was separated from the bathroom, which was very useful and there was a door separating off the corridor and bathroom, which kept the bedroom very quiet. The only problem was the noise of the extractor fan. We were disappointed that a hotel at this level had no restaurant, so dinner had to be taken outside - not easy on a Sunday night. The nearest choice wa the Hotel Alliance next door, Ibis nearby or the station. There are many take-ways close to the hotel as there is a student hostel in the same building. The hotel is a couple of blocks from the railways station, which is currently being cleaned up and t he fascia will be marvellous when finished. This is also the stop for the tram line which is also being refurbished, so making it easy to get into the town centre, which is about 15 minutes walk.
We used the underground car park, which must be the safest ever, as you go through three checkpoints with codes and the Mercure area is even fenced off from the rest of the car park. However, to gain access you first have to check in at the reception and get four codes. To find the hotel entrance you need to pass the station on your right until you reach the service road at the end of the block in front of the Alliance hotel and use the service road to the end of that block. It would be difficult to see the code pad in the dark. Thee is open air parking with a barrier, but the proximity to the street and railways tation did not make this appealing for us.
