“Wonderful staff, well equipped room and lovely gardens”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

Having negotiated the roadworks, we were greeted by a friendly, helpful member of staff who was determined to make our stay trouble free; he succeeded! (beware - tramway being installed in Tours centre - Wilson Bridge is closed to traffic which makes navigating to this or any Tours central hotel, a tad nightmareish!). We stayed in the modern extension; ground floor, well equipped with the kitchenette as described elsewhere; WiFi didn't work very well in room but was OK outside (the garden and large grounds are really lovely) . We didn't dine here but walked into old Tours in the evening - 30 minutes. I would thoroughly recommed this hotel.

There are always compromises when choosing a city hotel-- Hotel Chateau Belmont
strikes an excellent balance between quiet location and city access. In contrast to its name, the majority of the hotel is new construction: the small "chateau" building houses hotel administration, restaurant/bar, and a few "chateau suites" on the second floor. If you wish to stay in a historic Loire chateau, this is probably not the hotel for you. If you plan to visit the Loire without renting a car, then this hotel is a good option. The hotel is a couple blocks away from the new tramway under construction on Avenue de la Tranchée in Tours; by summer 2013, access to downtown Tours will be relatively effortless. For now, hotel access is a 20-30 minute walk from the Tours train station via Pont Wilson, which we found enjoyable in the nice summer weather (the bridge is open to pedestrians but closed to traffic due to tram construction). If you have a lot of baggage, it is advisable to get a taxi (cost is 15 - 20 Euro). The hotel has a free car service to the train station, and you will need to book this in advance. The service was not available during the hours we needed to arrive and depart, but certainly worth it to try booking.

Grounds and gardens are very quiet and secluded, being shared with Domitys (French residences for seniors). As a young couple, we were not put off by this; rather, we were pleased to be in the bustling city of Tours while having a secluded landscaped park just outside our door. We booked a junior suite, and its kitchenette greatly added to our stay, as we could prepare some simple breakfast or mid-day meals en suite while eating out more lavishly in the evenings (Restaurant Charles Barrier is only a block away). The room was spacious, sparkling clean, and outfitted with premium linens. The king-sized bed was very comfortable. The hotel offers breakfast for 19 Euro/person, but there are better and cheaper options around. There is a fitness center, spa, and pool, but we were too busy touring the Loire sites to make much use of these amenities. The on-site restaraunt is highly rated, but we did not have the opportunity to dine there.

Service was outstanding, in particular, Mmes. Ilke and Helene went out of their way to take care of the smallest details for us. Most of the staff speaks excellent English and are happy to explain local attractions. We would certainly book here again. Once the tram is operational in 2013, it will be one of the top places to stay in Tours.

Room Tip: Our quiet junior suite was in a separate building near the lobby/restarant building. We were glad we...

Stayed here for three nights for our silver wedding in June. Good quality hotel but pricey for what you get qnd the location. Room (Junior Suite) very comfortable and well equipped, restaurant is overdone and over priced - avoid as much better quality available in town. Pool and spa nice but gym very basic. Staff helpful and friendly.

This hotel is a fair walk down a steep hill from Tours City centre so only stay here if you are fit or prepared to eat in the hotel restaurant. A Chateaux Hotel this is not so beware, if you are looking for a Loire Chateaux experience look elsewhere. Wi-fi unreliable and worked for only one of the four days. Extras also expensive - basic buffet breakfast 19 Euros a head and no scrambled egg or bacon/sausage left at 9:00 a.m.

The Belmont was comfortable, but our room had a strange quirk. The toilet was separated from the bathroom by ... the kitchenette! The inconvenience of having to leave the toilet, walk past the kitchenette, make a left turn and then get to the sink in the bathroom.
Other than that, a lovely hotel with lovely grounds. While some might complain about the walk to Old Town over the Woodrow Wilson bridge a bit much, I found it a nice stroll. One way to advance the appetite, the other to be rid of a few calories!

I had a great stay at the Belmont. An little old Chateau as the lobby and restaurant with modern blocks of rooms in a lovely garden compound.

Rooms service is limited but tasty. The restaurant appears to be quite nice (but I didn't eat there).

The rooms are small but modern, with a brand new bathroom and rain shower. Both nights there wasn't enough hot water though. It wasn't cold, just 10% less warm than I like it.

Beds are very comfortable and the room is nice and quiet.

Breakfast is expensive and I didn't pay the 19 Euros for the buffet.

The only downside of the place is the location. While it's quiet and the grounds are beautiful, it's about 15 mins drive from the downtown. So if you have a car it's fine, but if you are taking the train from Paris expect to be taking taxis to and from the town centre to do anything.

Staff are friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for three nights-the idea was to use it as a base for touring the numerous castles in the area. Our room was 25, on the very top floor in the roof space. Despire the sloping ceiling on one side the room was exceptionally modern and clean. The decor is funky but the best thing was the huge, comfy bed. We had a very good sleep as it was so quiet outside. The hotel is surrounded by lovely gardens and situated about 20 minutes from the centre of Tours. You simply walk down the hill, cross Pont Wilson and then you arrive in the heart of the city. As we did not partake of either dinner or breakfast in the hotel I can't comment on the quality but the guests who did seemed to be making positive noises. Everytime we encountered a staff member they were exceptionally polite and helpful. We really wouldn't hesitate to stay in this hotel if we were in the area again although we might be tempted to request one of the newer studio rooms to see what they are like. We enjoyed the extra touches such as the little coffee machine and the bathrobes and slippers.

My partner and I stayed athe the Clarion Hotel for three nights and it was lovely. The room was large and had all the facilities (jacuzzi, pool, internet) we needed. It was a short 20min walk into town and had lovely gardens. It would probably be more centered to an older couple hotel as we found there were no one close to our ages (25). Helena at the reception desk was amazing.
