This is a marvelous example of Gothic architecture. I have enjoyed visits to Chartres and Notre Dame, and this was my third favorite medieval cathedral. No crowds and very, very beautiful.

A wonderful, beautiful display of stained glass windows, complete with detailed explanations to really bring the craftsmanship and the story they tell to life. A lot of love and care has gone into presenting the glory of the these windows to the general public. There is a wonderful sense of generosity of spirit that so much time and resources has gone into sharing them with visitors.
This is a joy to visit. A site full of beauty but also with a sense of worship. The visitor is always gently aware that this is a place of prayer over many ages rather than just a building storing artefacts and works of art. A joyous and wonderful place to visit.
One note - the best place to view the architecture and craftsmanship of the outside of the building is to go into the Musee des Beaux Arts as the upstairs windows of the Museum look out at a high level onto the Cathedral and you get a wonderful view of the carvings etc. The cathedral is free so the 5 euros for the Musee is well spent.

The beauty, history, setting and craftsmanship make this a must see. The stone work and windows alone could keep you here for a week. Such a treasure; oh and it's free and cool!

Exceptional cathedral with so much history, original location dating back to Roman times. Blend of styles from Gothic to Italian influenced towers, and amazing stained glass work. The cathedrals around Europe are always a bonus visit with the free entrance, chance to cool off from a day's hike around city centres, and to marvel at these religious works of art. And, if you walk just a block away, you find the Fine Arts museum that includes Rembrandt's, etc. along with a preserved Felix the elephant from a long-ago Barnum and Baily's Circus...

Visit this large cathedral for the stain glass windows, which are truly exceptional, they would be even more so had the sun been shining!
