“French Freemasonry section, fun exhibits.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013

This is a place to see what skilled workman can produce (miniature shoes for eg or model pagodas of sugar) but if you speak French, it also has a section on Free Masonry in France which is worth seeing. Otherwise you can take the children here on a rainy afternoon and let the exhibits speak for themselves.

“Examples of the skilled trades”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2012

There was not much to see in Tours, this was however, worth a visit. The carved wood work was amazing. One had a piece of wood worked to form a roof to a tower. The stonework and structures, all in miniature were fascinating, showing how arches were made. All sorts of trades had models of works displaying skills. Well worth a visit.

“It's ok if you can speak French! Otherwise a quick visit.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

You maybe laugh, but we booked to go to Tours at the very last minute, and as always I went straight onto Trip Advisor to see the top things to do, they are always fantastic for ideas of the best places and things to see and do. Musee du Compagnonnage was No.2 on the Trip Advisor list so for us this was a must visit! Anyway, my French is not that good and I did not really read up on what Musee du Compagnonnage was about, I just presumed it was a Champagne Museum :-) Ok, to my disappointment there was not a drop of champagne in sight! Musee du Compagnonnage is a museum of crafts people. Although this was not what I had expected, it was good and interesting, when you pay your entrance fee of 5.30 euro, you are handed an information leaflet in English which is great, but what is not so great is all the descriptions of things are in French and only French which is not so good. The carved wood work is brilliant and the sugar cakes were beautiful, since neither of us speak good french we were out the place in about 20 mins after seeing everything. There is not a lot of things to see and do in Tours, it is more of a central place to site when visiting all the magnificent Chateaus in the surrounding areas. I see therefore see why it is number No.2 on Trip Advisor! Its ok, but not sure if I would recommend to anyone (unless there was Champagne ha ha).
