Great spot to stay smack in the center of Chateaux country. Old Style Traditional Grand Hotel - half of one anyways as the other half seems cut off??? 2 steps to train station, great touring location, good clean & comfortable rooms. Fabulous location. Excellent staff. Excellent breakfast (but not included).

Room Tip: Ask for an interior room

We chose this hotel solely becoz of its location, since it's bang opposite the Tours stn. So we did nt have any prob locating it. The check in was quite quick and the staff were polite and helpful. We stayed in a deluxe double room. The room was neat and clean. However were a bit disappointed with its size as it was way too small. Nevertheless since most of the time we were out sight seeing, it wasn't a big issue as such. Breakfast was good.
Another important aspect of staying here is it's proximity to the Tourist information centre from where one can easily plan a trip to Loire valley. So that for me was big plus. Mc Donald's and other super makets are nearby. Overall a good and pleasant stay. Would surely recommend this one.

The hotel is well situated for touring the Loire Valley—the parking is right next door and there is easy access to streets out of Tours.

We stayed in the Winston Churchill Suite and a triple room. The suite was extremely large, with a hallway, a huge bedroom, a large circular sitting room (lovely windows and multiple seating pieces), a large bathroom with shower, small dressing area and a separate toilet compartment. The suite had been updated, but it was quite obvious that the intent was to keep the old (1920’s perhaps?) flavor. The triple room was an average size room, probably large by European standards, and had a separate area for the third bed which was very nice. In general, the rooms were clean, nicely decorated and included appropriate amenities. (Except plastic cups were provided in the bathroom—truly, glass is so much nicer and doesn’t seem cheap. At this price point, they shouldn’t be disposables.) Also, there is no in-room safe so we had to bring everything valuable down each morning and leave it at the front desk.

The quirkiness is in the lobby entrance to the hotel. It looks like it was built and has not been updated since the 1920’s. One of the steps has been turned into a ramp (which I tripped on several times). There is a door to a “restaurant” (with a sign overhead) which has been disguised with plants and is closed off. There is a small elevator off the lobby—not sure if it was the only one in the building, but it was being used by the room cleaning staff too, so I assume so—which is the only transport to the upper floors except stairs. This makes bringing luggage up cumbersome as you must make multiple trips up the elevator, plus it is constantly in use so there is often a wait. Wifi requires a separate code for each device and each device must get a new code every 24 hours—a bit of a pain.

We were told that there was a way to drop off our luggage at the front of the hotel. Based upon the one-way arrows/signs and the busses parked out front, this did not appear to be a possibility, so we had to haul our luggage from the underground parking structure (at the Gare) nearby. Not a huge problem, but something to note. Parking is €7 per day if you buy it from the hotel, a significant discount from standard parking rates. The Gare Tours (train station) is right next to the hotel, but the noise did not seem to be a problem. Also in the same building as the hotel is a briocherie, touted as the ‘best in Tours” which is quite good and worth a trip. The restaurants within close walking distance to the hotel were average.

For the cost, it is a good value (especially for the location), but there are issues that should be considered. Would we stay again? Probably, but the hotel could be better.

Hi, and thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We are really glad you enjoyed your stay in the Winston Churchill Suite and one of the triple rooms at the Grand Hotel de Tours. Indeed, we have kept the 1930s Art Deco feel alive in the rooms and lobby. We are conveniently located just next the train station, and it is possible to bring your car to the entrance of the hotel to bring your bags in. It can be a little tricky with the one-way streets though, so don't hesitate to call us for help!

We hope to see you again in the heart of the Touraine region!

Sincerely,

Benjamin

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel which is right across the street from the lovely train and bus station, as well as being only a short walking distance to the tourist office. They were renovating this 1920's style hotel back to it's former self but we found the rooms to be clean and well kept during this renovation. The reception area was very inviting with books on the Loire Valley for sale. Staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful and accommodating to all of our room requests. There is also a supermarket right next door to the hotel. Great restaurant next to the train station also. There was a lovely wine festival being held right across the street from our hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Tours

Room Tip: Next time I would select a superior room for 2 people as the room size is larger.

All our rooms are decorated in the spirit of the 30s and we assume that choice to offer a different hotel as chain hotels. We are very happy that we appreciated that;

Hoping to welcome you again.

We were on our way to Lyon after coming from a 5-day Loire Valley tour. We chose this hotel for its convenient location right next to the train station. It was also a short hop on their tram to Old Town and the main shopping area.

Reception staff were very friendly and accommodating. Room was big and had a great view of the train station. Breakfast though limited in selection was plentiful. Fast WiFi.

Would definitely recommend this hotel to our family and friends who prefer to stay in Tours.

We stayed 2 nights and then opted for another in this charming 1920's hotel. Very good service, good elevator, good English at the desk and across the street from the Train station, but depot and tourist office where our Chateaux tour took off. Our only complaint was there were noisy little kids staying above us, but when the desk was notified the noise stopped. Stay here.
