Astonished that this place has any positive reviews.

After a few days of French food we fancied a change. Error. It was just awful and bore no resemblance to the great Indian food you get in the UK or India itself.

Very little spice and far too much cream in everything

That said, the younger guy looking after the dining room was really nice and friendly. We tried to eat enough of everything that we wouldn't hurt his feelings.

As never been to Orleans before the choice of where to et was fairly random. I try and find an Indian restaurant as I love the food so Le Rajisthan came up with good reviews. Decor was the standard with the background music to match so getting you into the atmosphere of what was to come.

Kingfisher beer to get going, when in Rome and all, and as I know it is almost impossible to get a very hot curry in France I went for the hottest option they had in the hope it would suit me, lamb vindaloo.

Normally popadoms come, or are at least proposed but not here. Straight to the order and then short wait till starter arrived.
Onion baji for a starter was well off the mark. What arrived was coated onion rings, never seen this version out of all the times I have had them!
Half way through the starter and the keema nan I ordered arrived, I hate when this happens as I want to eat it with my main course. If it was for my starter, then why does it arrive when I am nearly finished it!

Only the Kingfisher so far ticking the boxes or me.

Main arrived. I have never seen vindaloo soup, as this Is what I would say it looked like, with a large 'disc' of potato cut in two pieces in my 'soup'. Now bearing in mind I am brought up on curries in the UK where I would never go in and order a vindaloo unless I knew the place, so knew what strength was going to arrive, and that in France I am never going to have this issue as they do not serve them hot enough to have any worries about ordering a vindaloo I tasted my 'soup'.
Oh dear, add some cream and we can call it a korma at best! It was tasty but I was already on the slippery slope with my onion ring baji's, my now semi cold keema nan and now my lamb 'korma' vindaloo.

If this had been the the only Indian restaurant then I would I have said fair play, at least I almost had what I was hoping for, but there were 4 other Indian restaurants within 30 seconds of this one and 3 of them were open! If I am back in Orleans then I will try another one, if they are shut then I will go Italien.

August 2, 2011, I returned to this good Indian restaurant, where I have dinner once a year, every time I sleep in Orleans on my way back to Paris, after spending a few days with my younger son Elden, who is a tenor and lives in Annecy, in the Alps region.

After having my “apéritif” watching the news in my Ibis room, I walked to this place on a pedestrian street full of restaurants and had an excellent dinner.

Usually, I have a good lunch and a light dinner but I always arrive to Orleans in the late afternoon, so I make an exception in that case. Since I always walk a couple of miles between the hotel and the restaurant round trip, it seems that this helps the digestion, according to those who know more than I.

I took the dinner three course set menu for 13 Euros as usual (France is not Uruguay, where prices have been multiplied by three in five years!), with a very good Chicken Tikka (brochette) as a starter, followed by a very good Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and a homemade excellent pistachio ice cream to conclude. Naturally, the Indian bread (Nan) is always included in the price. Unlike most restaurants, they have NO wine glass, only 1/2 bottles at 12+++ €, so I usually have a Heineken beer bottle for 3 €. That makes an excellent dinner for only 16 € tax and tip included, to which I usually add a couple of Euros of extra tip.

Since nonsmokers have managed to impose their will to the whole population in France, like in the US and in Uruguay, I usually have dinner inside, then I go outside and have a good espresso for a couple of extra Euros at one of the several tables they have on this pedestrian street.

Good food, good service, reasonable price. That’s what I call an EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY.
