I think that I would have bored if I stayed at Chateau de Champvallins for more than two days just because of weather - it was raining, and without TV and Internet the place would be too quiet. Also, I can imaging reading some classic book seating at cozy chair next to the fire downstairs. During the summer it should be a perfect place to stay for few days - the garden and the forest around are very well taken care of. In the downtown of Sandillon one may enjoy a gastronomic restaurant Un Toit pour Toi - the chief's name is Yanick, and he makes really wonderful things. Continental breakfast is being served by the hostess next to the ground floor windows of 18th century style

The Chateau is amazing and as good as the photographs suggest. The grounds are beautiful and the swimming pool would be excellent in the summer.

The service is very good - tea/coffee and biscuits when you arrive, a drink before you go to bed (after coming back from dinner), and the breakfast was excellent in a dining room of substantial quality and character.

The accommodation was in an adjoining wing, so not in the chateau itself - the room and en-suite were spacious and very comfortable, if a little dated.

The price has a question mark - 136 euros for B&B I feel is a little high for where the accommodation was. If the room was in the chateau itself it would have been excellent value for money. Just a personal opinion, but I could accept that others might disagree.

So, an overall rating of about 4.5 given a slight question mark about value for money. But still a very pleasant stay and an experience I would recommend to others.

Room Tip: A two day or more stay in summer with use of the pool makes more sense than an overnight stay en-rou...

An absolutely amazing Chateau. My wife and I did a driving holiday through the Loire Valley and then into Champagne and tried to stay at as many Chateaus as possible to try and have a unique and different experience. This was one of the better we stayed at.

As soon as we pulled in, our breath was taken away by the picturesque building and general ambiance. Whilst the Madame of the house could speak very little English (and my expectation in country side France is that they shouldn’t need to speak any), we had no problems and she had our booking printed out ready to go.

The property is incredibly secure, so for the high profile etc. it would not be a problem. Plenty of secure parking is available.

The room was amazing. An antique type room with a modern and truly terrific bathroom overlooking the property. We stayed in a room called Confidence. We hardly saw anyone during our stay and it was very peaceful.

Her son-in-law was at the property during our visit and he gave us a tour of the expansive property explaining a little history as we went along which was fantastic.

Their website (www.chateaudechampvallins.com) was explanatory and easy to book through.

I wish we had stayed a little longer. A truly unique place and worth a stay for a few nights if you are touring the Loire Valley.

This is a truly magical place – like stepping back into the 18th century, but with modern plumbing! From our arrival to our departure, we were welcomed with sincere hospitality. Our room was lovely – the décor was delightfully reminiscent of an age gone by. But the most amazing part was the view of the grounds from the huge windows in our room and bath. The windows all open up to the courtyard and lawn, with a lovely wooded area at the end of the lawn. (The pictures on the Chateau's website are very representative.)

After taking our bags to our room, we were welcomed with a delicious white wine on the terrace, and given an excellent recommendation for dinner close by -- Un Tois Pour Toi – which was excellent (we went there again during our visit!).

Breakfast was scrumptious – homemade fruit preserves and croissants and petit gateaux and brioche, not to mention fresh squeezed orange juice and the best coffee we had in France.

Madame Legant is a consummate hostess, and although she speaks little English, she understands much more and is charming in her desire to please. She has done a lot of work to make this place a showpiece.

The Chateau would make a wonderful destination for a wedding or vow renewal – the on-site chapel is very special.

Room Tip: We stayed in "Precieuse", but saw other rooms. They were all beautiful.

There is no place like this in the entire region and city of Orléans. An empire-style chateau (although its origins go back to the reign of Louis XVI) in the middle of a pristine location, overlooking a Versailles-like chestnuts and oak forest.
It is located in the middle of an amazing garden, with a comfortable and generous swimming pool, orchard full of apple trees, cherry trees and vegetables.
The owner offers you a personalized service, with the possibility of having a lovely and authentic french dinner the day of arrival.
Breakfast is wonderful, with home-made cakes, croissants, preserves and other delicacies. All the bedrooms are decorated with an exquisite taste and overlook the ever-green immaculate lawns. Centenary cedar trees give you the sense of history and grandeur of this place.
Champvallins is only 15 minute drive from the century-old and beautiful Orléans and very near the wonderful Loire valley where you can find the most famous chateaux in France and Europe. The forest of Chambord is nearby as well as historic abbeys and interesting churches.
The owner is extremely helpful for giving directions and tips to discover this lovely region.
A place to visit and stay several days to visit this lovely region which is just 1one hour and a half drive from Paris.

We stayed at this Chateau in July of 2010 and were pleasantly surprised. It was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Paris whereby we could sit by the pool or saunter through the forested ground or fruit filled orchard. The room was nicely appointed to look like it did from the period from which it was built. The lady of the house appeared to be somewhat overwhelmed with all there was to do which lead to some areas of the home and grounds not as well kept. All in all it was worth the trip if you are looking for a bed and breakfast feel in a castle. There were many larger chateaus within a short drive.

We had terrible experience with this hotel. We arrived with good expectation, as we thought it will be a good choice chateau-hotel. We were bitterly disappointed. We had reserved our room which appeared to accomodate 3 adults and payed for that, when we arrived, we have been informed that we should pay an extra, because our preferred room wasn't appropriate for us and should be accomodated in another, more expensive. But not just that, the proposed room's internet price appeared just 20 euros higher, and they demanded form us to pay extra 60 euros instead. We weren't informed or contacted of that previously neither by phone, nor by e-mail. We protested that it's an unacceptable offer for us. Moreover when we requested our reservation to be annuled by the hotel, as it should be in their responsibility, and claimed back our money, we were declined and instead offered some 20 euros discount. Then they made it 30 euros. After this rude attitude, we completley lost our desire to stay in this place. We rejected the unacceptable offer to be demanded to pay for extra at all, without a previous warning. The receptionist didn't spoke English, so I had to make a phone conversation with the manage to explain the situation. After a long conversation they agreed to return part of our payment with considerable deduction. I was astounded when during the conversation the manager addressed me with the phrase "my friend". This was a most unhappy experience for us in a hotel at all. Nowhere we have seen such an attitude from the staff of a property pretending to be providing high quality service and accomodation. Later on, the same evening we noted that their misleading internet site has been corrected.
When on return to home we sent an e-mail to the hotel management to inform them in detail about this unpleasant situation and kindly asking them for an apology, we even didn't get an answer.
Apart from all, we don't think that this hotel's quality justifies it's prices. You would find much nicer castle hotels in France, where you can be welcomed accordingly from the staff and would not experience such problems. This hotel also charges an extra for breakfast, which makes it a bad choice for these prices.
