It was a pleasure to be back in Hotel de l'Abeille again. Lovely to find it was just as charming as we remembered. Our room was on the 2nd floor (i.e. up two steep flights of stairs), had a small balcony overlooking the street, but it was quiet and the view was delightful.

There's a lot to recommend this hotel: quirky and full (to the point of obsession) of images of Joan of Arc; not a bad location, good breakfast, 4th floor terrace with great views, etc.

However, there's no lift. Good luck with your bags if you're on the 3rd floor. Lights in the bathroom are movement activated (which means you'll wake up your partner, and vice versa, if you visit ...). So ... fine but ... it fitted with the general " big city prices for small town delivery" suffered by Orleans, generally.

This hotel is unique and has a lot of character, and works hard to be a "green" hotel. If that is what you would like in your stay, I can recommend it. If you are looking for a luxurious stay, you might want to invest more money in a different choice. For the price point (without breakfast) we would do it again.

The positives:
decor was delightful and clean
firm bed and good linens
Wifi was good in the room (impressed)
upgraded room was spacious
front desk was helpful
housecleaning helped us with a minor thing graciously
24 hour desk is a great amenity in this type of hotel

No hotel is perfect:
We didn't mind turning in the key when leaving and getting it again when we came back even if we were only out for a few minutes. However, we did not like that you must buzz to get the door unlocked when coming in from outside. Not just at night - that is all the time. So you have your packages, umbrella, luggage or it's cold and you stand outside and buzz the desk. They respond promptly, but it feels a bit like you must get permission to step inside your own hotel, one with a 24 hour desk. It's very secure, I suppose, but seems mostly useful for the hotel, not guests.
Would not pay extra for the breakfast unless you must have it early like at 7:00 and can't wait until nearby coffee shops in the mall or street open.
A couple of extras would have been nice - pad of paper and pen, conditioner, and a bathrobe would have been extra nice. It's fine that they weren't available but other hotels with those amenities are appreciated.

We kept extending our stay and this hotel was a prime reason along with beautiful and underrated Orléans! The hotel is the kind one always wants in France but is difficult to find. An elegant and charming family-run boutique hotel where you feel at home in France! The room was a superior double, roomy with a large bath. The decor is historic chic!
You will be glad you stayed at the Hotel d’Abeille. Oh, btw, the breakfast is wonderful!

We broke up our 13 hour drive with an overnight stay in this lovely hotel. Rooms are clean, have loads of character, staff are really friendly / helpful ...and it’s in the centre of town. Everything that we were looking for.

A couple of points that stopped me giving it 5 stars. We asked for adjoining rooms (kids only 6&9), so we were expecting a door between the two rooms but they ended up being next door to each other (Rooms 110 & 109). There was an addition door to separate the two rooms from everyone else but the bedroom doors were so heavy kids couldn’t open them / we ended up wedging them both open with a table - no huge drama but not technically adjoining and was a bit of faff (if my kids had been younger, not sure it would have worked).

Breakfast not included, which wasn’t obvious to us - so additionally cost €48 for the family.
That said was a great quirky little hotel that we really did enjoy staying in - would definitely go back - loved Orléans!!
