“Lovely hotel in an okay city...”
Reviewed June 29, 2014 via mobile

We weren't quite sure where to stay as we made a last-minute decision to got to the Loire Valley and many of the hotels in recommended cities were booked. We are a family of 4 with two teens so need a room with bedding for everyone. While a bit pricey, this was a very nice room. There was a trundle bed for the kids and the bathroom was large and quite impressive (included a large antique dresser, slippers for everyone). We had a view of the street which has a tram line, shops (which were mostly closed while we were there), etc. The breakfast was pretty good but there is a charge for it. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was a pain and tricky to get to (and an additional charge) but you can park out front to load and unload luggage.

My only concern with this hotel was the city of Orleans itself. It's not very far from Paris so we had to do some extra driving to get to the castles we wanted to visit. It is also a large city without much charm. There are some beautiful, picturesque towns in the Loire Valley so if you plan ahead, it would be better to stay there. All in all our room was excellent so if you want to stay in Orleans, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The rooms in this hotel are full of old world charm. Nice big bedroom with a king size bed. Big bathroom with shower over the bathtub and plenty of hot water. Good position of main shopping street. Reception staff were very helpful with information about restaurants and sightseeing activities. The hotel offers a little luxury on a budget. There is no lift in this hotel and three floors with a spiral staircase. Leave your luggage in the car and bring a overnight bag. Alternatively book the first floor.

Designated parking spot directly in front of the hotel perfect for unloading and reloading luggage . Hotel reception/breakfast area charming . Rooms adequate size by European standards . Clean and comfortable . Bathroom modernized . Nice breakfast selection . Reception welcoming and very helpful. Underground parking in secure public lot available several blocks away . The hotel provides a discount for clients using this parking garage . There is a luggage storage room near reception to store baggage which comes in handy as some have mentioned there is no elevator and the staircase is narrow and winding . We found this a good location for exploring Orleans on foot .

We checked out of the Hotel de l'Abeille this morning after a two night stay. We are very frequent travellers to Europe and understand that standards differ between North America and Europe. The room was small but well appointed and the attached bath was adequate. Hauling 50 lb bags up to the third floor on crooked shallow stairs was more than challenging. Parking was about six blocks away, and 10 euros per night.
We were at the end of our two week stay in France when we arrived at this hotel. The weather had been spectacular...... but during our stay in Orleans it was very windy and cold with rain. Our bathroom on the third floor was freezing. I called the front desk to let them know that the neither the radiator nor the towel warmer in the room seemed to work. The clerk said she would need to speak with her supervisor and get back to me. Minutes later a woman called to tell me that the radiator system had been shut down for the season and that she was not about to heat the whole hotel because I was cold. She said that the staff was wearing short sleeves and that it was not cold at all. I advised her that our room was certainly cold-she said there was nothing she could do. Nobody came to check the temperature at all.
The next night (friday May 23) the hotel was full-a 'complete' sign posted in the windows. Apparently some of the other guests were cold as well-because suddenly the radiators were warm. Others must have complained about the room temperatures.

I was not pleased with the service at the Hotel de l'Abeille. I would not recommend this hotel to friends or family.

The rooms are small at this old hotel, and there is no lift, so one must carry cases up the narrow stairs. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and the central location, in the walking streets, is tops. The hotel has an arrangement for discount parking at a nearby underground garage, and there is limited access by car on a side street. Only a bout a block and a half from the main train station. Very reasonable rates!
Staff were incredibly helpful, and the breakfast was typical of what one would expect at a small hotel, with fresh juices and many "organic" items.

This hotel was delightful. In spite of carrying bags up 2 steep and narrow flights of stairs (it could have been more) and the tiniest bathroom ever, it was a great place. We loved the balcony looking over the main street and the rooftop terrace. It was close to the river and the things to see in Orleans. We caught a farmer's market, saw beautiful flowers, and much to our dismay, just missed the Joan of Arc celebration. The room was tiny but decorated beautifully. It was original and fun.

Room Tip: Make sure you can manage the stairs.
