“Love this B&B!”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

This is such a excellent find! It is a pity that I only able to stay for 2 nights in I'Argentier du Roy at the end of April. I would love love to re-visit you all again if I am travelling back to France again. Philippe and Christine are such a great host, and make us so comfortable in the house. They have spent such an effort to decorate the room and house with beautiful details. Thanks for Christine tips on making fruit jam.. I will definitely try it out.. Thanks for Philippe to recommend Cheatau de Villandry.. it is so beautiful! Plus the great recommendation to La Gerbe d'Cr restaurant for dinner! We also have a great time going to the morning market .. gotten some cheese and fruits back! Maybe the next time we are there, your other side of the "tower" will be ready.. and we can have a different experience at your place.. Hope to you see you soon!

Thank you, Jasciline, for your time writing this fantastic review, very warmful, and motivating for us to finish restorations of our next medieval & Renaissance suite-rooms, to welcome you back in the time of Joan of Arch who came in loches.... almost 600 years ago, when our House was built, We shall be honored to see you again.
As very nice guests, we"ll receive you with pleasure, when you'll decide to be back ... you know now a lot about our region that you like very much with our "french "art of living well" with great local wines and hundreds of Chateaux.
You're right ... Enjoy Life ...Philippe & Christine

We stayed 5 nights at l'Argentier du Roy in mid-April 2013. Christine and Philippe are wonderful hosts, with great advice about places to see. Philippe can tell you about the history of the house, Loches and the Loire River area. Christine's breakfasts are amazing - croissants, yogurt, fresh fruit, cakes, eggs from her chickens . . . you will be stuffed!

We stayed in Balzac's Library and our room was comfortable, quiet and furnished with beautiful antiques. The shower had hand-laid mosaics with a blue-sky-painted ceiling. Exquisite! Our windows looked out over Christine's beautiful garden. We enjoyed wine and bread-and-cheese in the garden at the end of the day.

Check out the photo of the double rainbow we saw out our bedroom window one afternoon - just one example of how magical our stay was.

Highest recommendation for l'Argentier du Roy - a lovely place to stay!

What a rare and great picture ..!.
Isn't it the proof, that we are "somewhere over the rainbow", and we hope, (as Judy Garland in the wizard of oz...) ...you saw the blue birds, you'd wish upon star..
Thank you.! Gillian and Hank, thank you very much too for this very nice review, and your true kindness.
We shall have a real pleasure to see you again (as you told us for a next family trip) back, one day in our beautiful region, it was a pleasure to meet you.
You will always be welcome here ... Enjoy Life ...Philippe & Christine

La Maison de l'Argentier du Roy is simply lovely. We were there for seven nights this past January. Ours was the beautiful and comfortable Jacques Coeur Suite which was decorated with period antiques and opened unto the formal garden. I can imagine how beautiful the garden is during other seasons. It snowed while we were there and the garden was covered with pristine snow...so very lovely.

Christine and Phillipe have done wonders in restoring this historic building. The rooms are emmaculate and tastefully decorated with antiques. It is a lovely property which takes you back in time.

The breakfast that Christine serves is oustanding with homemade jams, organic honey from the region, eggs from her own hens, fruit salad, homemade cake, a variety of breads, cheeses, several different juices, etc. Most all prepared by Christine. One does not leave her table hungry.

The location is superb. Everything located in short walking distance. Loches has many fine restaurants and shops. Christine and Phillippe readily make recommendations and respond to any questions. Phillipe is a walking history book on Loches. They are fantastic hosts. Their main concern is your comfort and enjoyment.

Thank you Phillipe and Christine for makiing our winter stay memorable. Your are very special and we hope to see you again. We highly recommend your simply lovely B&B.

Thank you, Bobbie and Andy, for such a nice review on Tripadvisor, and so warmful as you really are ; any hosts would like to receive guests like you.
We shall be honored to see you again, as you are planing for a next trip later in year, next time .
You will discover an other place when Mother Nature is awaken ... flowers, birds, even our small red squirels running on our 12th century city walls to reach our nuts trees - great show when you are "lazing" in our teak steamers on the terrace - and we'll present you, this time, our "princesses' court", lodging in our 2nd garden, just under the main Loches' chateau tower.
You tasted their excelent eggs on breakfast ; you'll love their, each, special, "french fashion look" ; we'll have 2 new, for the centenary this year, of a very local (and forgoten) race (created in Loches exactely), called : "Geline de Touraine". A première for this, probably, first and unique couple living in the heart on our medieval town...
We look forward seeing you again ...Enjoy Life & Best Wishes for 2013... Philippe & Christine

We have just spent three days at La Maison, and I am so sad to be leaving. Loches is magnificent, a treasure trove of history, culture and culinary joys, and our rooms (the Suite Jacques Coeur) complement it perfectly.

Christine and Philippe are charming and generous hosts, friendly and warm. Their attention to detail is exemplary…. A range of teas in our room, towelling robes, beautiful sheets on an enormous bed, magnificent décor, a large and comfortable bathroom; nothing was forgotten. Even in winter, the formal garden outside our window is beautiful.

The breakfasts are a delight. Freshly-brewed coffee, croissants and breads, home-made preserves, cheeses from various regions of Frances, fruit salad, juices, eggs, ham. A perfect way to stoke up energy for a day of sight-seeing.

The location is ideal. It is a few minutes’ walk from a number of excellent local restaurants (L’Entracte is particularly recommended!) and nestled in the walls of the medieval city. The castle, the keep and the cathedral are moments away. From each window there is a breathtaking sight.

My only regret is that it hasn’t snowed while we were here. But that might have been just too overwhelmingly gorgeous, and I’d never be able to leave.

I heartily recommend this superb gîte. And I thank Philippe and Christine for their fabulous hospitality. À bientôt!

Thank you, Margaret, for your great & fantastic review.
( private joke: we're sorry for the snow, it was programed in the next day after you left ... charming American guests enjoyed it, to be blocked on our "hill", in Loches, like a skiing station ... LOL ).
You were very nice guests, it was a pleasure for us to welcome you, and will be an honnour to see you again, when you'll decide ..
We are happy and very pleased if you enjoyed your "Suite Jacques Coeur", as you were the first to test it, in this biginning 2013, after we totally restored it, in last december.
We agree with you about our part of France, very special for history and amazing monuments, and our location, maybe add to this , a very romantic atmosphere.
It is still keeping this "out of time" zone, somewhere beetween 15th century to our 21th.
Enjoy Life & Best Wishes for 2013... Philippe & Christine

We stayed at La Maison de l'Argentier du Roy in July of this year, and it was one of the highlights of our six-week road trip through Europe. Phillippe and Christine were two of the friendliest hosts we met during our travels. Phillippe was very knowledgeable about the history of the house, which he took the time to explain to our family. We even got to peek down into the tunnels that connected the house with the castle, which was a thrill for our three sons, Phillippe was also kind enough to give us a tour of his garden and the place where he keeps several chickens, again a highlight for our boys. Christine was very gracious and friendly, and her breakfasts were wonderful! The house itself is beautiful and has lots of character. It is an ideal setting for a stay in the region.

Hi, Mary's Family, We remerber well "staring-eyes" of your kids, hearing me narating underground mysteries...it is always the same reaction with kids, and we love it each time ; it calms and captivate also some children & teen-agers too, giving them a particular interest of our very special place & location ; aren't we all "big kids" ? , passioned by legendary and mysterious stories (..or simply, true historic sometimes in our 600 years old house).
We are happy et very pleased if you enjoyed your stay. it was for us an honnor to meet you, sharing with us this place with its "out of time " Renaissance atmosphere.
Thank you for writing this great review, and taking from your free time for it, we hope to see you again one day in our beautiful region ... Enjoy Life & Best Wishes for 2013...Philippe & Christine

We much enjoyed our visit to Loches and with the help of our gracious hosts our dinners here as well. This historic hostelry is built as a mini chateau and is part of the outer wall of the town and each room is different. Some larger and some smaller. So it would do you well to talk to Phillipe or Christine with your expectations. We found the Jacques Coeur room to be comfortable and quiet. There was plenty of space in the bathroom for a lady's essentials, a very nice shower. Breakfast was fine, many choices of homemade preserves. You will get the "story" of the house and the town.

We like to hike and the environs of Loches has trails. The "old town" is just above the B&B and is a nice walk as well.

One caveat...... the street they are on is a dead end, it is quiet, and shares a similar name with the street that leads into it from the main gate into old Loches. If you are on that street, there is an almost hidden right turn into their street, through a bit of a gate between the inner wall and outer wall..... See the photo. Parking is available.

Room Tip: This is a B&B and every room is different. Your hosts can give you details.
