We have just spent three days at La Maison, and I am so sad to be leaving. Loches is magnificent, a treasure trove of history, culture and culinary joys, and our rooms (the Suite Jacques Coeur) complement it perfectly.

Christine and Philippe are charming and generous hosts, friendly and warm. Their attention to detail is exemplary…. A range of teas in our room, towelling robes, beautiful sheets on an enormous bed, magnificent décor, a large and comfortable bathroom; nothing was forgotten. Even in winter, the formal garden outside our window is beautiful.

The breakfasts are a delight. Freshly-brewed coffee, croissants and breads, home-made preserves, cheeses from various regions of Frances, fruit salad, juices, eggs, ham. A perfect way to stoke up energy for a day of sight-seeing.

The location is ideal. It is a few minutes’ walk from a number of excellent local restaurants (L’Entracte is particularly recommended!) and nestled in the walls of the medieval city. The castle, the keep and the cathedral are moments away. From each window there is a breathtaking sight.

My only regret is that it hasn’t snowed while we were here. But that might have been just too overwhelmingly gorgeous, and I’d never be able to leave.

I heartily recommend this superb gîte. And I thank Philippe and Christine for their fabulous hospitality. À bientôt!

Thank you, Margaret, for your great & fantastic review.
( private joke: we're sorry for the snow, it was programed in the next day after you left ... charming American guests enjoyed it, to be blocked on our "hill", in Loches, like a skiing station ... LOL ).
You were very nice guests, it was a pleasure for us to welcome you, and will be an honnour to see you again, when you'll decide ..
We are happy and very pleased if you enjoyed your "Suite Jacques Coeur", as you were the first to test it, in this biginning 2013, after we totally restored it, in last december.
We agree with you about our part of France, very special for history and amazing monuments, and our location, maybe add to this , a very romantic atmosphere.
It is still keeping this "out of time" zone, somewhere beetween 15th century to our 21th.
Enjoy Life & Best Wishes for 2013... Philippe & Christine

We stayed at La Maison de l'Argentier du Roy in July of this year, and it was one of the highlights of our six-week road trip through Europe. Phillippe and Christine were two of the friendliest hosts we met during our travels. Phillippe was very knowledgeable about the history of the house, which he took the time to explain to our family. We even got to peek down into the tunnels that connected the house with the castle, which was a thrill for our three sons, Phillippe was also kind enough to give us a tour of his garden and the place where he keeps several chickens, again a highlight for our boys. Christine was very gracious and friendly, and her breakfasts were wonderful! The house itself is beautiful and has lots of character. It is an ideal setting for a stay in the region.

Hi, Mary's Family, We remerber well "staring-eyes" of your kids, hearing me narating underground mysteries...it is always the same reaction with kids, and we love it each time ; it calms and captivate also some children & teen-agers too, giving them a particular interest of our very special place & location ; aren't we all "big kids" ? , passioned by legendary and mysterious stories (..or simply, true historic sometimes in our 600 years old house).
We are happy et very pleased if you enjoyed your stay. it was for us an honnor to meet you, sharing with us this place with its "out of time " Renaissance atmosphere.
Thank you for writing this great review, and taking from your free time for it, we hope to see you again one day in our beautiful region ... Enjoy Life & Best Wishes for 2013...Philippe & Christine

We much enjoyed our visit to Loches and with the help of our gracious hosts our dinners here as well. This historic hostelry is built as a mini chateau and is part of the outer wall of the town and each room is different. Some larger and some smaller. So it would do you well to talk to Phillipe or Christine with your expectations. We found the Jacques Coeur room to be comfortable and quiet. There was plenty of space in the bathroom for a lady's essentials, a very nice shower. Breakfast was fine, many choices of homemade preserves. You will get the "story" of the house and the town.

We like to hike and the environs of Loches has trails. The "old town" is just above the B&B and is a nice walk as well.

One caveat...... the street they are on is a dead end, it is quiet, and shares a similar name with the street that leads into it from the main gate into old Loches. If you are on that street, there is an almost hidden right turn into their street, through a bit of a gate between the inner wall and outer wall..... See the photo. Parking is available.

Room Tip: This is a B&B and every room is different. Your hosts can give you details.

Thank you, for your time writing this fantastic review, very warmful, and motivating for us, as we are fully back to our winter's restorations, working hard on our next medieval & Renaissance suite-rooms "Charles VII" and "Agnes Sorel", which will be a tribute to their romantic and historic love in the time of Joan of Arch.... almost 600 years ago, when our House was built.
You were very nice guests it was a pleasure for us to welcome you, and will be an honnour to see you again, when you'll decide ... we know now that you like very much our Loire Valley and its History.
This part of France is so special for historic, amazing monuments, and very romantic atmosphere, but still live very present, in the french "art of living well" with great local wines and totally organic & fresh production.
It Keeps you &us, "out of time" , and happy to ... Enjoy Life ...Philippe & Christine

We highly recommend l'Argentier du Roy, a beautifully restored old house and separate gite, after having spent a week during September in this lovely B&B. For our stay we chose the Knight gite which was perfect for our needs. The self contained and separate 'apartment' was beautifully decorated, spacious, very comfortable and provided everything a traveller could possibly need. We were happy to cater for ourselves and the bakery which is close by provided freshly baked breads and delicious croissants for a delightful French breakfast. It was also a big plus for us to buy fresh local produce from Loches and its regular produce markets and enjoy a fabulous feast in our gite.
The views from the gite were magnificent and the B&B sits right next to the historic castle so you are actually part of the historic precinct. Phillippe and Christine were excellent hosts and were happy to give lots of valuable tips about the local area. Our friends stayed in a B and B room in the main house and were equally full of praise.

Room Tip: Bed and breakfast or self contained options, all good.

I must tell you a secret, we have restored the "knight's cottage" as our second home, in our home and it is not uncommon that we lived there for weeks, to liberate the house for some work that require us to cut the water or electricity.
And of course, ... we also love the atmosphere of the cottage, very medieval "comfortable", and a good fire in the fireplace delights us each time (we decided, for safety reasons, not to use fireplaces in the main house, until we ll may secure them totally with fires inserted, all secured system, with a nice "old look").
We are delighted to see that all those who have stayed in too, have feel the same sense of well-being, calmness and serenity it generates...in this incredible historic neighbourwood.
Thank you for taking the time to write this nice review on tripadvisor, we hope to see you again one day in our beautiful region, it was a pleasure to meet you ... Enjoy Life ...Philippe & Christine

We stayed for one week in late September 2012 and had a wonderful time at La Maison de l'Argentier du Roy. The room was comfortable, clean, tastefully decorated and had a wonderful view across the valley. Philippe's history of the building and Loches was very interesting and informative. The dining room and breakfasts were excellent with home made products and fresh bread every morning. Christine's local knowledge and advice made breakfast a great preparation for the day ahead. The central location in Loches was great for exploring the Loire Valley. We will visit again.

It will be a pleasure, Tom, to see you again, and this time, you'll have to come with your roadster car, to admire it, and discuss "racing classic cars"... Thank you for writing this great review, and taking from your free time for it .
We are happy that you liked our "princess nest" at the top of the towers, it is so romantic.
Don't forget to get informations, among your Car Club, about next "Le Mans Classic" ...We were part of first editions 10 years ago , allready... and it was fantastic. The town and the cicuit of Le Mans ares just 65 miles from Loches... Enjoy Life & "sky drive" ...Philippe & Christine

My wife and I stayed in L'Argentier du Roy in the city of Loches for 1 week in October 12 and enjoyed every moment that we spent. As soon as you arrived you are welcomed by Phillippe and Christine. Phillippe takes you for a walk around the House and explains you the meaning of the Maison de L'Argentier du Roy and the importance of the city of Loches with such a passion. The Maison is carefully and beautifully restored, the garden in the front of the house is absoluteluy gorgeous and provides a good view of the city. There's another vegetables garden with approximately 9 chickens that are just lovely to look at. The room, Jacques Coeur that we stayed in was very spacious and clean and I highly recommend to reserve the living room with it.The Hosts were very helpful, informative and always there for you.The dining room was a good place to start the day and to meet other people with its friendly and warm feelling. I recomend this wounderful place, L'Argentier du Roy to anyone who would like to visit in the Loire Valley,

For all our Quebec Friends & Family, the sentence "je me souviens" (" I remember" ), has a real meaning.
But for us, Eric & Suzanne, it will have a double meaning about you, as your kindness was exceptionnal and sincere.
Not only because you offered us at your arrival, this fabulous Canadian "Sortilege" maple & whisky liqueur, which we'll use probably very soon to prepare Christmas foie gras...
Not only for the huge can of Quebec maple syrup you offered us when you left home (it will be for sure, an experimental ingredient for our next cuisine recipes (all that we love : mixing world & region products for taste pleasures )...
You were also so open, nice and interesting to discuss (with your funny quebec french accent, we love too), and so many common points of view with us, about the world life.
It was a honour to meet you, and will be a pleasure to see again one day.
You will always be welcome here... Enjoy Life ...Philippe & Christine

The reviews on TripAdvisor do not lie, this beautifully restored B&B deserves to be the #1 place to stay in Loches. My partner and I stayed in the fabulous Knights Cottage for 5 nights in September, we absolutely loved it and hope to return soon. Philippe and Christine are very charming, knowledgeable and welcoming hosts; staying here is as relaxed and comfortable as visiting good friends. Their house is unbelievable, it's literally in the shadows of the medieval church and chateau.

The ancient town of Loches itself is very quaint and historically rich, exploring its many sites with the help of excellent audio guides from the tourist office really gave us a feeling for what life was like here 1,000 years ago.

You were very nice guests it was a pleasure for us to welcome you, and will be an honnour to see you again, wen you'll decide ..
We noticed you were sad to leave on the last day ; we understand this feeling very well, we had the same 12 years ago, each time we had to return back to Paris... then we decided to stay and leave definatly Paris, et we never had any regret since it .
This part of France is very special for history and amazing monuments, and our location, maybe add to this , a very romantic atmosphere.
Keeping this "out of time" zone is our constant aim when we restore a room of the house, to give each corner an century tribute from 15th century to our 21th (for bathrooms equipments)
A Bientot.... Enjoy Life ...Philippe & Christine
