Owner description: Open every day of the year ! The medieval fortress dominates the village with its austere facade. But don't be daunted: the open drawbridge is an invitation to enter into the refined lodgings of a great lord. It is the most fully furnished castle of the Loire Valley. The hushed ambiance of the rooms and the splendor of the great reception halls will plunge you into the daily life of a 15th century prince. You will relive the event that distinguished the history of the locale: the wedding of Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany, recreated with strikingly realistic wax figures. In the park, you will discover the recreated construction site of France's oldest keep. The promenade, punctuated with playgrounds and the tree house, can be followed through cedars and sequoias to the gazebo overlooking the Loire.

a great place to spend a couple of hours - and easy access. The wax figures are a bit campy for my tastes, but it does provide a good history lesson

“If staying in Langeais”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

Langeais was our second stopover for daytrips. The Chateau provided a history with costumed figures, furniture and multi-lingual descriptions on leaflets in each room. The gardens-park was small but worth the walk.

“Worth a detour”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Offers a bit more than the usual stuff with its child-friendly gardens (treehouse, sculptures and info boards etc). In the Chateau itself, its history is presented in an interesting way with costumed figures and set scenes from its past recreated. Multi-language info sheets available in every room.

“Nice morning out”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

A good Chateau to visit, interesting history and stuff for the kids to do. Nice grounds and the 'raising of the drawbridge' is good fun. Right in the centre of Langeais which is lovely, a good day out.

“An impressive historical castle”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

There is real important history here in this ancient chateau. It doesn't have the majesty nor the beauty of some of the Loire chateau, but it is still a delight, especilly with it's important connections with Anne de Bretagne. The approach to the castle from the lovely little town is a great sight.
