“Completely bonkers, entertaining, drunken, delicious and an amazing night out!”
Reviewed August 31, 2011

Not for the faint hearted! You need to have a sense of humour as the host and staff and real characters and the place is very 'unusual' and certainly very quirky. Food delicious, wine flowed very freely and this was certainly a night a will never forget! Very good value for money.

“Not for the sheepish or shy, this...”
Reviewed September 1, 2010

Not for the sheepish or shy, this wonderfully unusual restaurant with a unique set up and excellent host and waitress offers fantastic wine and food at a very reasonable price.
You may need a nap after lunch though...don't expect to drive as wine flows freely as standard...
5 courses(ish) plus coffee and wine (about a bottles worth each) for two was just 40euro!
Highly recommended :)

“Well Worth the Stop”
Reviewed July 30, 2008

Read the other reviews for a better description of the facility. This was great though!! My family and I really enjoyed this as a not so typical meal! It is supposed to be a traditional medievil style meal in a cellar that dates back to the 15 or 16 hundreds. The cost is 18 Euros, but well worth it. The wines were very excellent and the dessert was outstanding. The owner is a great character and will make your experience more enjoyable. He does not speak any English if that is a problem, but we managed just fine!

“Our Best Meal in France! Great wine too!”
Reviewed October 17, 2007

We had our best meal in France in this kitsch animated wine museum, that also has an all-you-can-eat meal! They make Fouees - traditional pita-like breads that come right of a wood-fired oven and onto your plate. You fill them with escargot butter, meat paste, goat cheese paste, beans and greens. They also pour you a local sweet wine as an apertif, and a red or white wine with the meal. For dessert, you get fouees with jam. I can't recall the price, but it was well worth it!

The funny thing is that this place is only mentioned as a museum in guidebooks (they have animated figures that tell the story of how wine and barrels are made). But, this is an amazing meal and wine that you will not experience anywhere else.

There is a window into the kitchen from outside the restaurant where you can watch them make fouees.

It's in a little alley, just a ways off the Place du General De Gaulle, and on the Chinon tourist maps, as a museum.

Open daily, mid-march thru september.
