“Wonderful welcome and a beautiful and interesting apartment”

The apartment was a real pleasure: a beautifully restored medieval home that is historically interesting yet has all modern comforts. It was a wonderful place to stay. We were in Chinon for a week and enjoyed the city, its history, castle and friendliness. It was a treat to eat fresh produce from markets in close by towns. We found that in January some of the castles near by were closed so we travelled a bit further afield to see other amazing castles. We are all looking forward to returning to this great apartment. Nathaie's warm welcome, attention to details in the home and assistance added so much to our enjoyment of Chinon.

La Maison Rouge is a delightful place to stay. When we arrived, the host, M. Vincent Richard, met us with a lovely bottle of wine, explained how everything worked, and answered all our questions about Chinon. He even helped us to rent a car for our stay, and when we left, drove us to the car rental facility. The gite is large, roomy, and inviting. It is well equipped and very pleasant. We hope to return and enjoy this charming place again. The stairs are a bit steep, so it is probably not a good choice for handicapped or small children. Seniors would be ok as we are retired and had no problems whatsoever.

“Fantastic historical building”

A fantastic stay would highly recommend. Owner very friendly couldn't be more helpful. The accommodation is a two bedroom apartment at the top of a two storey winding staircase. It is full equipped and has all the amenities needed. Even though the description said 3 bedrooms it hasn't, and our teenage son ended up sleeping on the sofa bed in the main lounge, which was comfortable but inconvenient in the mornings when everyone was trying to make breakfast around him. The main bedroom is a beautiful double room equipped like a five star hotel. The second bedroom is a twin room. The bar on the ground floor wastn't noisy the only distraction was tourist taking photos of the building and guided tours stopping outside giving a running commentary. As you cannot park at the house you have to park , free, some where else in the town, but nothing is more the 5 mins away. When loading and unloading the car it is very difficult to get the car near the house due to the tight narrow roads. The house is situated about 100 metres from the castle, and like everything else it was an easy walk. I would highly recommend this gite if you like history and want to feel what it would have been like living in a medieval inn. Not recommended to people with mobility problems due to stairs and poor access. Owners did help accommodate out 3 bikes buy moving ornaments, on the ground floor, but was a tight squeeze. No outdoor space at all.
