“Worst meal in 5 weeks in France”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2012

Maybe we too had an off night however it seems as if we ate in another restaurant entirely from other reviewers. Having eaten in Michelin starred restaurants, the cuisine here has no resemblance whatsoever to even a one star, a bib gourmand or anything else. I doubt a Michelin inspector would survive a visit! The waiting staff turned away a number of diners despite the restaurant being half empty the night we were there, and looked continually stressed which seemed very odd. The food was a mix of bizarre flavours that matched poorly, especially the exuberant display that was our dessert sculpture ( completely over the top!). It was so bad we couldn't stop laughing. Avoid.

“Tres Bon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

On the last night of our June, 2012 cycling tour, we ate at Au Chapeau Rouge in Chinon. . .what a delightful treat! Our waitperson was very patient and helpful with our mangled French as we ordered! The meal ( four courses!) was outstanding. The presentation was beautiful; the service impeccable. Each course was a delight unto itself. The local cheeses, pared with the Chinon wine, melted in your mouth, followed by a scrumptious fresh strawberry chocolate dessert!
What can I say other than I would definitely recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat! Only regret is that it was our last night in Chinon!

“Another great meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2012

We ate here on one of our 5 nights in Chinon and enjoyed it very much. The food was definitely Michelin 2 star quality albeit a little rich for our tastes but nevertheless a lovely evening with superb service from the lady proprietor.

“The best of French cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2012

Very dear even for the set menus but Michelin star quality - service and presentation first class. Get there early or better still book a table in advance as it is so popular.
If you like fancy food this is the best restaurant in town.
