I had an older room on the top floor, street side. Bed with French bolster pillow was not comfortable. Noise from window, especially from motorcycles, made it difficult to sleep. Not particularly friendly staff: Example: Would not change a 20 euro note for me and didn't seem to care. No computer for guests. Homemade jams for breakfast were very good. After reading the reviews here, I was disappointed.

Picking Chinon as a stop over on route to Le Harve heading home, this delightful hotel lives up to the reviews. The courtyard setting is great for breakfast or a pre dinner drink in the evening sun before walking to the delightful town square for a meal (very reasonable drink prices too). A friendly atmosphere with light bustle really makes you feel at ease straight away. Good hosts - typical of a very well run family establishment. Book direct with the hotel - they may have rooms available even if other sites say they are booked! Stay more than one night if you can to really get into the flow.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Delightful, charming hotel with great hosts. The rooms are being redone so if you would like one of the new beautifully decorated rooms do ask. In our party of two couples we had a fairly scruffy room and our friends a redecorated room with much better bathroom.

Liz and I came across this place while browsing through the budget/medium-priced hotels in Chinon, and thought it looked too good to be true. However, the reviews were almost unanimously enthusiastic, so we booked straight away and kept our fingers crossed! We weren't disappointed. What a delightful experience - like staying at a family's rather grand town house (which it is) rather than a commercial hotel. You may not get the hi-tech finishing touches which come as standard in bigger hotels, but you get a friendly, more intimate experience which more than makes up for any shortcomings. For instance, the breakfast choices may be limited, but there seems to be an unlimited choice of home-made jams. Do be aware, however, that your alfresco breakfast can be very attractive to the local wasps, so better to stay indoors!

We were with the Rick Steves tour group so I'm sure that it had some influence on our service, BUT, I think they treat all their guest with the same care.......greeted us with a smile, showed us to our rooms, which were clean, bight and airy. Very quiet, in fact, they asked if we returned after 10pm, we do so through the guest door in the back of the hotel and please be quiet....

If Laurent is hosting a wine tasting get together, Don't miss it, it was one of our highlights of the trip.....

We have stayed here for the past two years. We receive a warm welcome and immaculate service. The breakfast is memorable with an amazing array of home made jams.
Dinner at the L'Oceanic Restaurant nearby rounds off a perfect stay.
We look forward to returning next year.

My boyfriend and I loved our two nights at the Hotel Diderot. The room was clean and quiet, the breakfast (which I thought might be overpriced at 9 euro a person) was delightful, and the little garden was so charming. The room we were in wasn't as charming as the pictures on the site, but we chose one of the least expensive rooms, and really, how much time do you spend in the room? The bed was comfy, the bathroom was large and clean, and we had everything we needed. (By the way, parking outside of the hotel is very easy and safe--there's no real need to park in the hotel lot, so don't worry too much about that.)

For our trip, we used Chinon as our base and drove around the rest of the Loire Valley to see some of the other major chateau. Chinon is a delightful place to stay--not too small, with many restaurants to choose from, but also not too big. And if you're staying in Chinon, definitely choose Hotel Diderot. It's soooo inexpensive and very conveniently located in the city--restaurants, farmers market, etc. are all within short walking distance. And Francoise and his family are great! I definitely recommend.
