“Great food, perfect service”
Reviewed June 26, 2013 via mobile

We have eaten here twice in the past week ... once for lunch & also of dinner. On each occasion the food was extremely tasty & beautifully presented. The staff were perfect in every way, especially in dealing with our lack of French. At lunch we had just a glass of wine & unlike a previous poster, felt it was a more than adequate size ... I don't know what a 'standard' drink in France but we were happy. So happy that we will return before we leave Chinon.

“Style over content”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

The food was beautifully presented but lacked flavour really, the sauces may have been homemade but that wasn't a certainty, it seemed to lack 'love' in the preparation and was just a little too industrial for a bistro.
As it was lunchtime we had just one glass of wine only but the serving was minuscule and seemed a bit on the mean side. Fair enough we only had the set menu for 15 euros which is very reasonable but the wine wasn't included in this price, so a decent serving wouldn't have gone amiss.
All in all, the staff were polite and friendly, even though I did have to stand to one side to allow the waitress through, not the other way about and she mocked my attempt at French too but hey ho.

“Pretty good”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Ate here as our second and last meal in Chinon.

Very nicely refurbished, although a bit odd in that they had no music on.

We had a set menu, which had plenty of choice on it. Perhaps too much? I get the feeling that the restaurants in Chinon (see our other review) don't change the menu much as all their business must be tourists, who won't know!

However, the service was pleasant, the food was nice and it wasn't terribly expensive. Also, they have a nice touch in that you go and select your wine yourself from some very well made wine racks! Each wine has a price label on it.

So not mega amazing, but we enjoyed it and didn't regret going.

“Wonderful meal”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

the best food all trip. The meat (tournedos Rossini and foie de veau) was outstanding. My only criticism - where were the vegetables the French are so fond of? The dessert poire pochee with homemade black currant ice cream was again absolutely delicious.
Not cheap but then not a lot in France is cheap.
Service helpful but not patronising.
well worth a visit.

“a cracking French bistro”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

We hadn't eaten here for a couple of years, and were delighted to find that this place has been newly renovated by the original owners, now joined by a new front of house team, and I have to say the combination works brilliantly. The new style is 'bistronomie' with practically everything made fresh on site. A good selection of choices on the blackboard menu (3 courses at €23) with a daily special for less. Had lunch here on a Friday, the place was buzzing, service professional, food delicious, we were very pleased with our choice.
