“Lovely Delicate Cooking”
Reviewed May 27, 2014

We ate outside on the covered terrace. Notwithstanding being outside the immediate sight of the serving staff, the service was charming and attentive and the meal well paced. The food was subtle but with plenty of flavour. We would most definitely have returned had it not been closed for the next two days. It felt like a special meal without the over formality and air of reverence that blights some places.

“Really good but preferred old version”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

Returned here after a memorable meal some years ago. Found the food still very good but were dismayed to see the room had been redecorated to what the owners presumably thought was a more upscale standard. They traded charm for a rather grey formality. Still a really nice meal, though.

“Third visit and just as good as ever”
Reviewed May 20, 2014

Returned here on a recent stop over for two nights in Chinon. Food and service was of the usual high caliber but this time there was a twist for the wines - a local producer (Domaine de la Noblaie) was showcasing his wines and was very helpful in choosing wines to go with our starters and main courses. The wines and service were so good we paid his vineyard a visit on the Monday morning and bought several bottles of his wines.
Will definitely be returning to this restaurant next time we are in Chinon, and maybe paying the vineyard a visit also.

“a mixed experience.”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

My view of the restaurant is clouded by what happened towards the end of our meal. It was a cool late April evening so there was a wood fire which was very welcome. This is really quite a small place and the menus accordingly restricted but interesting. The food was well cooked and good quality but here's the nub of my problem. Before the dessert course could arrive the fire started to smoke because a customer had not shut the door properly filling the room with wood smoke. In small doses quite pleasant but this was not a small dose and we went outside into the cold to eat our dessert. What annoyed us was the lack of apology and the slowness of the staff to realise something was wrong. The experience means that frankly I have forgotten what the food was like but still remember the lingering small of smoke on my trousers.

“Simply memorable”
Reviewed April 27, 2014 via mobile

The service, the table setting, the ambience and the cuisine combined to make a special memory for us. I was not hungry enough for three courses, sadly, electing mains, in my case of sweetbreads with the sweetest white asparagus i have ever tasted, and dessert, beautiful fruit sorbets. Michael couldn't resist the quail entree, a mains of pheasant in an adaptation of a middle eastern style, also followed by sorbet. The coffee was very good. Chinon, a delightful town, is served well by this restaurant. Treat yourself and enjoy a memorable evening.
