We have stayed at the Bon Laboureur on many occasions - we travel to the Bordeaux area by car about three times a year and though we've tried many of the good hotels in the Loire valley over the last twenty years this is by far the best in our view. It is not a budget hotel by any means but neither is it as expensive as many in the area and it certainly is great value for money. We love the setting, a stone's throw from the Chateau de Chenonceaux. The minute you arrive you begin to relax! The staff welcome the guests and are friendly but not effusive. The rooms are all different but they are large and comfortable and tastefully furnished. Most have lovely modern spacious bathrooms. Over time it's clear that rooms are regularly upgraded and refurbished. Important to us is the fact that they are immaculately clean, warm in the cooler seasons and cool in summer. But the highlight of a visit is the restaurant with its elegant décor and the promise of a delicious dinner with fantastic fish and meat perfectly cooked and beautifully served. The wines are well-chosen and there are plenty to suit all tastes and pockets. Though the restaurant is very popular the staff are brilliant and the service runs like clockwork. The drinks are paced as needed for each course and there's never any pressure to have another bottle of water or wine or to choose the most expensive on the menu.

Our room was perfectly satisfactory and the only quibbles were that our room had a separate WC with no hand basin, and the free wifi was difficult, although the signal in reception was better. Breakfast was 15 euros each, reflecting the quality of the restaurant rather than the auberge. The restaurant was superb (many visitors have reviewed it separately).

My husband and I stayed 4 nights and had been upgraded on arrival.

Our room was in a private courtyard opposite and really nice. The room was large, you walked into the bed area and then there was a bathroom to the side in the middle and a lounge area at the back, it was more of a suite. We didn't have a view to speak of, but did look down on a small garden area.

We ate at the restaurant the first night and have to say that although the food was expensive it was excellent and I would absolutely recommend giving it a try. But if you want somewhere much cheaper to eat and evening meal or lunch then go across the road to Le Relais Chenonceaux hotel, they have plenty of choice for all pockets and really cheap good wine if you buy it by the carafe.

The room was very clean and had everything you needed and although the bathroom was kind of a box in the middle of the room it was a very modern bathroom with bath and shower, both of which we tried. The bathroom had opaque glass walls and doors, which was a bit different but fortunately the toilet was a separate cupboard on it's own.

In case you want to visit Chenonceaux Chateau it is really just minutes walk away and also the train station is, which has regular trains going all over the local area. This is a really good location for the area and I would also recommend a balloon trip.

Room Tip: Go to the Le Relais Chenonceaux hotel if you don't have to money to eat at the hotel itself

We stayed two nights, and dined at the restaurant for one. Our room was large, very well appointed, and the bed superbly comfortable. Service, in both the hotel and the restaurant, was charming and helpful. Two very small lapses: our first courses in the restaurant took a long time to arrive (we think perhaps because because we ordered a la carte when most guests had the set price meal); and our request for breakfast in our room was overlooked - but this was quickly rectified. The food at dinner was cleverly conceived and beautifully executed, e.g. a technically challenging dish of moist, roasted saddle of rabbit enclosing a fresh pea mousse. It looked beautiful and was just as good to eat. Great wine list, too. But the meal was very, very expensive.

This is a great place to stay. The rooms are rustic and quite small, the bathrooms rather basic, but it just oozes charm. The staff are excellent, professional and enthusiastic. The swimming pool is located across the main road through the village in a separate garden. Good location for visiting Chenonceux.

We booked this hotel because of the very positive Trip Advisor reviews and were a little disappointed. While it is certainly a perfectly reasonable hotel, with some helpful and pleasant staff, and in a great location for the Chateau of Chenonceau, its four star rating does feel unrealistic in 2013. Except for the restaurant (more later), it is hard to see that much has been done to the hotel building, rooms or bathrooms in recent times (it has a late 1980s look and feel) and you are left with the feeling that the room prices charged have been formulated on the back of the hotel's proximity to the Chateau of Chenonceau rather than on the quality of the hotel itself. More annoyingly, the restaurant is simply not up to the mark, turning out dishes which could not justify the prices charged - on the night we stayed, the cheapest set menu was 49 Euro, starters were all around 25+ Euro and main courses around 35+ Euro (i.e. more expensive than many one Michelin starred restaurants in a capital cities, e.g. Pollen street Social in London, and similar to many two Michelin starred restaurants' prices, e.g. Helene Darroze at the Connaught in London). The food was bland and, while the dishes we tried had a superficially sophisticated look, closer inspection and tasting suggested that they may have been assembled on the premises from pre-made/bought-in ingredients. It will be interesting to see how Francois Hollande's controversial new legislation (requiring restaurants to detail where everything they serve is made and from what) impacts on restaurants like this one. Overall, a quaint, pleasant and workmanlike hotel which seems to have either overestimated the quality of its offering or based its pricing on its location.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights (August 15 &16) and absolutely loved it. The town is small but quaint with a great little store to get baguettes, pain au chocolat or just a plain croissant. They also have beer wine cheese etc. The hotel itself is a grouping of little buildings. Our rooms (43 & 44) were adjacent to each other across from the main building. The best part about it was that the two rooms are in their own "private" hallway. It made it so much easier with the kids. This is a relais de silence hotel so if you bring kids you should be mindful of that. There is a pool across the street that is quite pleasant. The restaurant is an experience NOT TO BE MISSED. The menu is exquisite and the food, service, staff, attention to detail is top notch. The 8 course meal is the way to go as it has a little of everything.
The bar area or lounge is really comfortable and is a great place to just sit and enjoy a nice glass of wine or spirit.
