My wife and I visited Chateau de Chenonceau in September 2017. We had visited Chateau de Chambord in the morning and made it to Chateau Chenonceau by about 1:30 pm. The Chateau de Chenonceau is unique. It is built over water and it is a very beautiful and scenic place. There is a lot of history in the various rooms and we took our time going through each room. Outside, there are gardens on each side which offer excellent places for taking photos. Although Chateau de Chenonceau was very crowded, it was still very enjoyable and even very magical. I think if you plan your visit to the Loire Valley carefully, you can visit Chateau de Chenonceau and two other chateau in the same day.

Back home, we researched which of the Loire Valley castles we would visit and decided on Chenonceau. We were traveling by train, and Chenonceau was an easy train ride from Tours, where we were staying. Besides, from what we could tell, Chenonceau, straddling the Cher River, is a perfectly preserved work of art from the Renaissance period onward. It is a magnificent monument to the aristocratic women who each left her indelible mark on this romantic structure. The castle itself is incredible, meticulously maintained down to the smallest detail. Do take the time to take the self-guided audio tour, which explains the history and the story of everyone involved. What a beautiful place! The grounds, too, are impeccably kept, the gardens, a joy to behold!!! A must see!

Fell in love with the elegant and graceful Chenonceau. Particularly enjoyed touring the rooms, especially the kitchen. Unlike many of the chateaux, it felt more comfortable, like you could actually live there.

The gardens were pretty, not as stunning as some, but still nice. We enjoyed catching sight of a hot air balloon floating above the trees.

This is what it would feel like to live in a castle! I could do this. Serene setting, lovely gardens, and perfectly maintained. The interior has been restored and docents are available for questions. Worth a visit.
