“Wow, what a setting!”

This is one of the great Chateaus. It is built across the river with beautiful gardens all around. There is free parking (lot 1/2 full at end of September). The chateau is huge with a lot of displays inside that are worth the visit.

“Loire Valley tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2014

We visited this stunning estate as part of a Loire Valley small-bus tour from Tours with France.com. The commentary was good and the tour was a reasonable price [good value].
It was a very hot July day and only 3 couples on the tour. There wasn't much water in the moat.............we didn't see rain all three weeks we were in France. The gardens were doing very well considering the hot, windy weather. Inside, the decor was beautiful.

“Beautifully presented chateaux”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2014 via mobile

The setting up of the rooms here, including the kitchen and Catherine de Medici's office/study, make this a very engaging visit. Apart from it's stunning setting, the beautiful flower arrangements through reinforced the exceptional nature of this chateaux. On a very cold day, having fires lit in a couple of the rooms added to the authenticity. The art on display is also exceptional.

“Loved it!”

A must see, this Chateau is nothing short of stunning. The location, the views, the gardens, the building - All were sensational. Don't miss out on this. The history of the place is fascinating too. One visit just doesn't seem enough.

“An Enchanting Chateau That Lives Up to the Hype”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

I took a full-day châteaux tour via Acco-Dipso Tours during my October visit to Amboise, and this remarkable château was the belle of the palace ball. The weather that particular Wednesday afternoon couldn't have been more perfect (comfortable temperature, light billowy clouds against a bright blue sky).

As a photography enthusiast, my primary goal was to capture some wide angle images of the château from a distance, so I high-tailed it to the far reaches of the gorgeous garden of Diane de Poitiers for a stunning view of the palace and the river Cher. Most people had walked directly into the palace to explore the many rooms, so I had the garden largely to myself.

The comparatively more intimate garden of Catherine de Medici offers equally lovely views of the palace and the quaint Marques Tower rising majestically beyond the lawns, boxwood bushes, and the circular pool.

The interior merits a good hour of exploration, particularly the chapel, with its modern (1954) stained glass windows (the originals were destroyed in WWII). I found the English-language visitors' guide most helpful in identifying and appreciating specific art and furniture. The Gallery, which spans the river Cher, is a glorious and light-filled space that you'll want to walk the length of before you conclude your visit.

While the tour allowed for a generous amount of time at this château, there wasn't enough to enjoy a sit-down meal. I made do with a perfectly good pizza slice at the small take-away stall near the parking lot.
