We were in Chartres on a Tuesday and found many restaurants closed. The hotel's bistro was full, but the Grand Monarque had many free tables. It's classical white table cloth, formal French service with great food. Highly recommended.

We ended up in Chartres on a Monday. While searching for a good place to lunch, we noticed that most restaurants, especially those in tripadvisor top 15; were all closed on Monday. We decided to come here. Madrigal is actually the bar of the Hotel. The new bistro is called "Lacour by Madrigal".

This place deserves to be higher on the list. Service was very warm and perfect. Everything was organised very well. They also have an excellent daily lunch menu, worth it's money.

In the beginning, we were disappointed that everyhting was closed and that we had to settle for this restaurant. After eating here, we're glad we came here! This was the perfect ending for our Loire trip^, before heading home. I would defintely eat here again.

After a long, hard road up from the Dordogne, meeting bouchons and deviations along the way, we had been delayed by 90 minutes. We were tired and a little irritable. So it was by wonderful provenance that the tide washed us in through the doors of the restaurant of the Grand Monarque Hotel, Chartres on a Sunday evening.

The welcome was warm and professional, the restaurant large and spacious. Proper coverings on the table and linen napkins. Uniformed and informed staff. The posh but relaxed ambience, our meals, and the Bordeaux red that went with them were precisely what we needed: a good pampering. Delicious!

20 euros for a main course and the starter-level Bordeaux at 29 euros could be regarded as a little steep, but when walking the town afterwards, we saw that you could pay similar prices at considerably lesser establishments. And the price included service.

All-in-all, a great choice. Not the cheapest or the most expensive, but easily the best meal we've had in 10 days in France.

Having visited Le Georges several times, both whilst staying at the hotel and just for the evening, it has always been a fantastic experience. We have visited both as a couple, as a family with young kids, we the extended family and with friends. And we were never disappointed. If you bring children, they have the opportunity to get almost what they want, you just ask for it. Our son asked to go there for lunch for his 6th birthday ad LOVED it as always.
We are defiantly coming back every time we visit Chartres, we LOVE the food, the ambiance, the surroundings and the attentive staff!

We had dinner at this restaurant yesterday with my daughter's family; seven of us including our three grandchildren. The service was courteous and fairly efficient. Unfortunately as is often the case, acoustics in the restaurant are poor and the place was quite noisy - a hindrance to conversation.

As for the food: I had a first dish of warm oysters, a main dish of sweetbread, and soufflé Grand Marnier for dessert. This last was really very tasty. However, the first dish was only so-so. As for the sweetbreads, of which I am normally very fond, they were frankly bad. They were accompanied by a sort of vegetable pudding, mainly artichoke, quite good; and another something, vegetable green but actually containing meat: after a valiant effort, I was unable to finish it, quite inedible. All in all, except for the soufflé, way below what I would have expected from a Michelin-starred restaurant. My wife had a fillet of sole, acceptable but not very good, and a Granny Smith-based dessert - OK, no more.

All in all, a really disappointing experience.
