This church is beautiful. So much to see especially the stained glass windows, stunning! Has a good gift shop for souvenir shopping.

Took a nice day trip from Paris to Chartres on the train to see the cathedral. So beautiful! The stained glass and sculptures are amazing and are in such amazing shape for their age. We went here before the other Notre Dame in Paris (they are both churches dedicated to Mary, mother of Jesus), and we agreed that Notre Dame Chartres was better by a mile. For one thing it was not crowded at all (we went on a Monday - the only downer was that many things around the church, including the stained glass museum, were not open on Monday) so you could really explore the church without being pushed around or hearing lots of noise. We rented the audio guide and it gave a good tour of the cathedral, inside and out. There is also a local guide who is supposed to be very good - we bought his book on the cathedral. If you are into gothic cathedrals, don't miss Chartres!

What an awesome church! SO much to see. The stained glass windows known for their Chartres blue are abundant and beautiful. The structure itself is just stunning. There was some restoration work on some of the glass but nothing distracting. Nice gift shop where you can get rosaries, postcards and other religious cards, statues and memorabilia. Nice day outside so we had lunch on a bench facing the cathedral. A must see. Nice little town too. Eat a crepe or galette. Or find a nearby boulangerie for a sandwich or slice of quiche.

Took a day trip to Chartres in July to visit the cathedral and wasn't disappointed. It was a nice sunny day, the square in outside it was nice and allowed you to get a good view of the front of the building.

The Cathedral itself is impressive architecturally and had a real sense of history about it.

I have been to a lot of cathedrals but the one in Chartres is truly stunning. We went in summer and the illumination show was surprisingly awesome. This town is definitely worth an overnight stay.
