We visited Bourges for just one night and were disappointed how few genuine restaurants there were (a number of bistros and bars). We stumbled across this one near the cathedral and were welcomed by Jean-Pierre who spent time talking about the menu and helping with wine choices. WE were followed by a good number of locals into this small restaurant. The fois gras was to die for and the main course tasty but not too big leaving room for the stunning dessert.
We had a problem with the bill (digital point in the wrong place) and Jean-pierre tracked us down to our hotel (we hadn't mentioned where we were) and ensured the error (which was in his favour) was sorted promptly.
We would recommend the RDC highly. Unless you book dont try to eat late here.

The receptionist at our hotel suggested this restaurant and we were very pleasantly surprised. It is smallish and clearly run by food lovers. The menu which is changed from day to day, depending on what ingredients are available, has a few choices for each course. The entrées are 12 euros and the mains 20 euros.. There is a limited but well chosen wine list. We had a mackerel mouse to begin with followed by a vegetable tart and tuna en croute, all were excellently prepared. Coffee was good. The waiter was friendly and happy to discuss the menu and wine list. If you are interested in good food with local ingredients we strongly recommend this restaurant. It is relatively small so book to be certain of a table.

Very nice French food (foi gras and entrecote), great service and good wines. Intimate atmosphere with matching background music. Top ingredients. Would love to eat there again.

On this last week end of vacation, we had a hard time to find a restaurant in Bourges. But Au rez de chaussée was a great find. Good choice of entrées and plats, limited but adequate choice of wine. The quinoa and gambas was very good as well as the foie gras accompanied with jus de pain d'epice. The effiloche d'agneau well presented was very tasty. We had a very good Mennetou Salon red to go with all this. The restaurant is run by only 2 people so you may expect some waiting in between courses but it is worth the wait because everything is made in house. It would deserve a better setting.

We booked a hotel in Bourges without a restaurant. So into town, visited the beautiful cathedral. We then went to the tourist office to ask for restaurant recommendations and were pointed to rue Porte Jaune. Walking down and approaching this restaurant we passed the kitchen door and were greeted by the proprietor, who persuaded us that we should use his establishment. Slightly concerned as we were the first guests that evening, but we needn't have worried, food was excellent served with humour by the proprietor. Restaurant soon filled up and eventually people were being turned away. Certainly one of our best meals, thoroughly recommended.
