I was doing a solo cycle trip of the Loire valley, following the Loire a Velo route. As with the previous reviewer, I just stumbled upon Beaugency and it is a typically French small town. Full of character and attractive. I decided to have a night here and found the Hotel Licorne up a side street near the main square. A very clean hotel, in an old rustic type building but with modern facilities. I had an en suite room on the top floor, complete with oak beams running along the roof, and those old shutters on the windows that are so characteristic of older French buildings. The room was not luxurious, but for a 2 star hotel costing 50 euros per night it was perfect for my needs. A clean, working toilet with a good shower; a comfortable bed; and a small TV with no English language channels (a bonus in my book!). One complaint stops it getting a 5 star rating, and that is the heat in the room. Despite leaving windows open and having the supplied fan on all night, it was still uncomfortably hot in the room. Maybe something to do with it being on the top floor? Air conditioning would be good, but then you are getting into 3 star territory. Owners were very friendly and looked after my bike by putting it away in a secure part of the hotel overnight. Not that it mattered, I got the impression that I could have left it leaning against the railings of the town square, unlocked, and it would have been safe. It's just that kind of place! Cannot comment on the breakfast as I opted out.
