“Wish my home were as beautiful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2014

This small hotel, just steps away from the chateaux in Azay-le-Rideau, exceeded our expectations in so many ways. A former school, the location was central for getting to many chateaux In the western Loire valley. Our room was elegant and serene with beautiful taupe walls and linen curtains. The proprietors were friendly, warm and just plain nice. There was a charming courtyard where we could read and chill. There was a bright modern lounge where we could relax. Breakfast was simple (9 euros) with delicious local preserves and croissants, along with the usual ham, cheese, hard boiled eggs and cafe au lait. We wish we could have stayed longer.

I stayed here during the early summer of 2013. The entire complex seems to have been a century old girls' school and there are hints of that all through the buildings, both in art and furniture, a very nice touch. My room had two single beds, comfortable but small. The bathroom was small though everything was in immaculate condition. Everything was very clean. Excellent staff throughout.

The rooms and the hallways had wood floors and plaster walls which made for a lot of echoes, so the sense of privacy was easily lost. The floors, especially the stairs, creaked when someone was walking.

The hotel was difficult to find, admittedly it may have been our GPS. We had to approach the wrong way on a one-way street. I never did find the correct way to get there. Maybe you park in the town square and walk to the hotel. The entrance is a simple door in the wall. You have to be on your toes to catch it. The sign is a bit too subtle as well.

Breakfast was buffet style with many options of fruit, cheese, pastry, cereals, eggs and coffee. The coffee was extraordinary. I believe coffee and tea is available throughout the day.

But the most extraordinary aspect of Hotel de Beincourt is the small courtyard in the middle of the buildings. It is peaceful, beautiful and comfortable. Much of my visit to France could have been in this courtyard and I would have been satisfied. Breakfast, coffee or tea at their outdoor tables is something I look back on with much pleasure.

My daughter and her family occupied one of the larger suites and were very complimentary though I did not even see their room and can't comment on it.

The owners spoke basic English, much better than my basic French and were eager to be friendly and helpful. They have created a gem of hotel in Azay le Rideau. The town itself is small and has little tourist flavor but the setting by the river is beautiful. I visited estates near Azay but not the castle located there. Maybe I should go back to see it... I don't miss anything, if I do I'm staying at the Hotel de Beincourt.

The owners of this wonderful little hotel, really do go out of their way to help. When we arrived my husband had had an operation on his knee, he was using a mobility scooter. They couldn't help enough, even allowing him access to their own garage so he could park and charge it. Everything that could be done to make his stay more comfortable was done.
The hotel itself is really comfortable. Beds are dreamy, we stayed in the annexe and it's a glorious building. Spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated, relaxing shades of cream and grey. The bathroom has a lovely walk in shower, it's really powerful. Plenty of hanging space in the double wardrobe. Tea and coffee are available all day in the lobby. Breakfast is fresh and plentiful. It is in a lovely little village, the chateau is roughly ten houses down the road. Most of the other main chateaus in the area are within a forty minute radius. The hotel has a lovely comfortable lounge area. I really cannot think of one bad feature. We certainly will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the old schoolhouse

This hotel is very special, given the price. It is - as far as the atmosphere is concerned - more comparable to a large B&B rather than a hotel. It is very well located in an very quiet street with no traffic next to the beautiful castle of Azay-le-Rideau. It is located in an ancient school from the Napoleon III period and was very nicely restored. We stayed in a room under the roof and was very romantic. Bathroom is small but very modern with super shower. The hotel is very clean and the welcoming was very friendly. Breakfast was very simple but correct to our opinion (we are no big breakfasters).

This is a nicely positioned hotel right in the centre of Azay-Le-Rideau and conveniently placed for the chateau and local restaurants. The only concern I had when booking the hotel was the car parking as you have to use the town car parks (free) and these are obviously not secure or in sight. It all worked out fine though and the hotel had a pleasant feel to it. We have stayed in better equipped larger rooms but it was clean and the shower was an absolute joy (very up to date). It had everything necessary for a pleasant stay although I do wish that more French hotels would provide tea/coffee facilitites in their rooms.

We did have the breakfast on the two mornings we were there although I did think it was expensive. Plenty of choice though and pleased in the end that we did.

Would stay again if we were in the area and ready to pick up more wine or visit more chateaus.

Room Tip: Rooms are varied in size and position (we went for cheaper option in attic space) so maybe if budget...

This hotel is super convenient. The hosts are absolutely terrific. The croissants and tea/coffee to welcome you are wonderful. It is located on a quiet cobblestone street. We had a lovely room. But a heads up, if you are tall, the upper rooms have slanted ceilings. Please watch your head. The pictures are accurate and representative. You may want to request a first floor room if you do not want to bump your head. Breakfast was wonderful with lots of choices. The chateau is literally so close you feel as if you are on the grounds.

Room Tip: Tall people should choose the first floor.

We spent three nights at this gem. The hosts at Hotel de Biencourt were supurb. So helpful and kind, we had a very warm welcome and farewell from them. Our room was excellent in presentation and comfort. It was situated near the tranquil courtyard which was a terrific place to sit and enjoy a drink and snack. The location of the hotel is so cental and free carparking less than 100m away was a plus. Truly a wonderful boutique hotel and great value for money.
