We stayed here a while back during our travels around the Loire Valley, and it was a spectacular visit. The rooms were so comfortable and clean, the breakfast was out of this world, and we enjoyed our time at this hotel immensely. It was a very good value.

If you are doing a driving tour around the Loire, Amboise makes a great home base. The Amboise Chateau is also great to explore and, while not as magnificent as some of the other ones, a great contrast to some of the more ostentatious ones!

My friend and I stayed here from Oct 2 - 4 and our stay was great. Our room was huge and we only paid about $150USD per room/night (booked via the hotel's website). The property is gorgeous and well maintained. The bathroom, although not very large was clean and spacious enough. The entire property was full of charm & I loved it. Our room was in the front of the hotel as you walked into the property. There was no issue w/ noise and we slept well except that the bed was a little too firm for my taste. The property itself was exactly what we were looking for in terms of a property that reflect the charm of the town. The person who greeted us was polite but not extremely friendly. The breakfast was fantastic, about $11Eu pp. Overall, great stay and would stay here again in a heartbeat. Loved it!

Amboise itself was a great place right in the center of the Loire Valley. We did not have a car and didn't plan our trip as well as we should have but I imagine that if we had a car, it would have been one of the best towns to stay in the Loire Valley. Hotel was not too far from the train but a bit of a walk with luggage. Be aware, if you take the train, there are not always cabs waiting so be prepared to walk. Also, if planning a trip over the weekend, be aware that tours do not operate on Sundays and everything is closed on Sundays and many things are closed on Mondays. Book tours on Saturdays ahead of time. Seeing the Loire via train is feasible, but a little difficult w/ all of the connections that need to be made. Would highly recommend seeing chateau d'Amboise b/c property is gorgeous. Chambord is a must and doing it by bike ride was a lot of fun, about 25km from Blois.

The gardens and landscaping were charming. The rooms were tasteful, bathrooms luxurious, and thoughtful details throughout. Loved the padded headboard. There was even a parking space on the property.

We arrived in the evening with friends, while Olivier from the front desk came out to "greet" us. We had 3 rooms, all in seperate parts of the hotel. The room was large but lacked any charm, it wasn't a room I wanted to spend any time in. Sleep was difficult as it was very warm, the air conditioning consists of a stand-alone AC unit with instructions on how to empty the condensor bucket... not exactly the activity i had in mind at 3AM when the AC stopped working.
The breakfast had been going well until my mother asked if more croissants could be brought out. She asked a man who appeared to be taking great interest in everyone's comings and goings, we later foind out that this was the owner. His reply to my mother was very rude, indicating that if she had eaten all the croissants, there would be none left and what did she expect. This was all said in a loud voice in front of other hotel guests. My mother hadn't even taken or eaten any croissants! The owner's rudeness continued for the rest of our stay- there is a CCTV monitor in the reception which he watches, so if you are entering, leaving, or just moving around the hotel he will watch or follow you. It was all a little creepy. The hotel is in a good location and has a nice small garden though, it's only redeeming features as far as I am concerned.
If you do decide to visit Amboise I'd sincerely urge you to find another place to stay. Our stay was ruined by the rude owner who liked to spy on us.

Beautiful garden, great location, all looks perfect from the outside. Service was gruff most the time, particularly the welcome. We stayed a suite and it lacked warmth and charm despite being huge - it wasn't a room you wanted to spend time in. they ran out of croissants at breakfast and it wasn't v generous. Could all be improved with a smiling receptionist, some small changes to the room and more food at breakfast.
