Gloria and Bob are supreme. We were enveloped in their knowledge of the area, suggestions for touring and excellent restaurant suggestions. The pictures do not do the property justice. It is most lovely, the conservatory and garden were sublime. Our room was private and quiet. We would return without hesitation.

The 'petit chateau' itself is fabulous, with several rooms each with their own personality and charm. Antiques are everywhere and the Manoir has been restored with care, attention to detail, and, apparently, great expense. The owners, Bob and Gloria, are wonderful--a wealth of information and stories about Americans living and working in France and life in general. The grounds are beautiful and the conservatory on the back of the building is perfect for their wonderful breakfast or for enjoying a glass of wine in the evening. We stayed for 3 nights but wish it could have been more!!

We stayed in the 17th century gatehouse cottage of this spectacularly renovated manor. The owners, Gloria and Bob (transplanted Americans) are beyond helpful. It was an oasis in France, where service can often be abrupt and rude. Gloria gave fabulous local suggestions everyday with detailed directions. Be sure and take every one of her suggestions and you will have an incredible day. I wish we could have stayed much longer.

Room Tip: Try to stay in one of the cottages, they are beautifully restored, including whimsical decorative details, a perfect mixture of historical charm and modern comfort. We were a family of 4 adults and stayed in La Maison de Portail (a cottage of Le Vieux Manoir). Fresh croissant were at our doorstep each morning, and a welcoming bottle of wine awaited our arrival - yummy!!

This must be my 7th or 8th trip to Le Vieux Manoir en route to and from the Dordogne. As always I find this place absolutely delightful. The American patron is a delight with her husband and the breakfast is the best I have had in France. Simple but beautiful, fresh fruit often from the delightful walled garden, fresh bread, chocolate coffee or tea and much more.

The rooms are all individually and exquisitely decorated with impeccable taste and the mattresses imported from the USA give an excellent nights sleep.

And the rooms beautifully decorated with antiques looking out over the waterfall that plays in the magnificently manicured lawn and maintained gardens. Not the cheapest in Amboise but definitely the best and worth every cent. This is my favourite hotel - a true delight and I will definitely return.

My husband and I spent three of our 15 nights in France in Amboise at Le Vieux Manoir and wished we could have stayed there for all 15. Our hosts were fantastic! Gloria provides a wealth of information from a historical perspective and took the time to suggest daily outings and restaurants while understanding our goals and interests. Bob provided us with wonderful breakfasts and does a fantastic job overseeing the property. Our room was very comfortable with a well appointed bathroom. The breakfast room is absolutely delightful and the food served was superb. Every day should start in such wonderful surroundings.
