We spent 5 nights and 4 days at Le Vieux Manoir in mid June 2012. We chose this B&B first and foremost because of it's location, right in the city of Amboise. We wanted to be able to walk to restaurants at night as well as attractions during the day, and at Le Vieux Manoir, we could. We spent an entire day exploring Amboise during our vacation, a quaint and interesting town in France's wine country. We loved exploring the town and really felt it "had it all"... the restaurants, a chateau, the shopping, the museums, culture, and history. Gloria, the owner of Le Vieux Manoir along with her husband Bob, gave us dinner suggestions and then made reservations each night during our stay and sent us on trips each day. Gloria is a wonderful travel guide and we relied heavily on her suggestions and expertise during our visit! We visited multiple chateaus (all within an hour drive) and had wonderful dinners each evening. While at the B&B, we were extremely comfortable. We slept wonderfully (something that did not happen during the rest of our 2 week trip in France). Gloria and Bob have installed all of the best fixtures in their bathrooms, used the nicest linens in their rooms, and have beautiful antiques spread throughout their house which are such a treat to see and learn about (ask Gloria for the background on the pieces you like and she will tell you about them). Gloria and Bob have really made their guests feel "at home" during their stay and through their design of the house, they have created beautiful spaces in their garden, library, and their breakfast room in order to encourage conversation and relaxation for all.

We really feel lucky to have stayed with Gloria and Bob during our trip to France. We would encourage all of our friends and family to visit Le Vieux Manoir as well...without any hesitation.

Room Tip: All of the rooms at Le Vieux Manoir are beautiful!

Painstakingly restored with patience, style and determination, Le Vieux Manoir is one of the prettiest inns we have ever visited. Every aspect of the property has been revitalized, and is lovingly maintained by Gloria and Bob, the proprietors and gracious hosts. It is perfectly situated in the town centre and thus in easy strolling distance to the town square, festaurants and the famed chateau.

My wife and I stayed here on the Loire Valley leg of a two week "tasting menu" of northern France. We arrived in Amboise with a full itinerary only to have our plans (wonderfully) overturned by Gloria. She sent us off on a completely different journey, full of sights, sounds and surroundings that we would have otherwise missed. She provides wise, informed counsel - make use of it!

For emphasis, this is an elegant bed and breakfast - there are no dining facilities on site. The beds envelope you and the breakfast is sumptuous. We would go back tomorrow.

The kind owners made our stay so delightful! You really could LIVE in this place, happily, for a long time. The location is great, the creature comforts perfect, and the service excellent.

Room Tip: We stayed in the gatehouse, which was perfect for our family. We had our own, truly functional house from which to explore Amboise. We really could have stayed here for days and days....

After spending 9 days in Paris, coming to Amboise to stay with Bob and Gloria was such a treat. As we got out of the car, we were greeted with friendly smiles and a glass of wine. The house is truly beautiful in and out. Lovely art and antiques grace the interior. Breakfast is held in a glassed-in patio with a view of the perfectly manicured yard. Speaking of breakfast, fresh fruit, cheeses, pastries, and granola were on the menu when we were there. Bob kept our cups full of steaming, freshly pressed coffee. Our room had an extremely comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom. Apparently when Gloria refurbished the house, she made sure the water pressure wouldn't disappoint, and it didn't. Rick Steve's put it right when he called Gloria a "one person tourist office." She gave us great sight-seeing advice complete with maps. She also sent us to restaurants that were wonderful. If you are visiting the Loire Valley, consider staying with Bob and Gloria. We felt like we were staying with family. You won't be disappointed.
