Owner description: At the invitation of Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci came to live at the Château du Clos Lucé and stayed here for the last three years of his life, devoting himself to perfecting his inventions. Leonardo was prolific and inspired, working as an engineer, architect and theatrical director, organising lavish festivities for the Court. At his residence 300 metres from the Château Royal, he drew up plans for a model château for Francis I in Romorantin and designed the double-helix open staircase in the Château de Chambord. The Château du Clos Lucé is dedicated to showing and explaining to the public the great knowledge acquired by the Italian Maestro.

“Great insights into a little-known aspect of Leonardo's life”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

The chateau visit is well worth doing, especially with a local guide, as it gives a good insight into Da Vinci's final years. Small but elegant, the chateau itself is well worth a visit and the extensive gardens are lovely. The basement with its collection of models of Da Vinci's inventions deserves a special mention.

Thank you very much for your comment. This is a good thing that you enjoyed spending time here in Le Château du Clos Lucé.
In summer, the park and garden are fascinating just as the genius Leonardo da Vinci.

Regards.

Don't rush this visit - there's much to enjoy in the house and even more in the gardens. The house is grander and offers more to see than I'd anticipated and offers a good insight to da Vinci's final years. The gardens are truly wonderful and cleverly bring to life many of the concepts, art and machinery imagined or created by da Vinci. We didn't allow nearly enough time and the gardens were busy with a large number of school groups which didn't allow for much peaceful reflection - but it was great to see kids engaging with the exhibitons. I will return for a second visit, preferably in the off-season or at least earlier in the day. Don't rush this one - the café looked great for lingering and a lot of thought has gone into showcasing the works so it's a shame not to linger. Worth noting that it is a reasonably steep hill up to the site, so another reason to linger with a coffee stop on-site and plenty of caffeine to fuel you through the grounds.

“Excellent visit of Da Vinci's house”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

This is a lovely chateau, with models of his inventions, the bedroom in which he died, copies of his famous art work, and lovely grounds. It is, however, quite expensive in comparison to other tourist attractions in the area. There is an additional expo. which is included in these prices: 18.50 euros for an adult, 9 or so for a child. There are family deals which bring down the cost. The Da Vinci and France expo was interesting and was worth the additional cost, but more so for adults (good displays and info but not interactive so less exciting for children). There are children's playgrounds and a picnic area, so a day can be made here for the family.

“Nifty with a gorgeous interactive garden.”
Reviewed August 7, 2013 via mobile

This was a fun way to spend a couple of hours. The exhibits were neat and well thought out. Taking a peak at the living quarters of da Vinci was also fun. By far the gardens are the best part of this exhibit. They are winding, hilly and full of explanatory models of his designs. Kids and adults alike can enjoy!
