Owner description: With the dawning of the Renaissance, the mighty medieval fortress of Amboise gave way to a royal residence, during the reigns of the Kings of France Charles VIII and François I. The Court, a large number of men and women of letters and European artists, stayed here on invitation from the sovereigns, one example being Leonardo da Vinci who lies here in peace in the Château’s Chapel. This place of high renown in the History of France boasts an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture illustrating the artistic finery of the first French Renaissance. After a visit of the Royal House and the impressive Cavalry Towers, the walk continues in the magnificent panoramic gardens overlooking the Loire river.

“An Historical Surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

If you love great scenery and history combined then take a day trip to Amboise, France. The chateau which overlooks the Loire River will transport you back to the Renaissance. Be sure to visit the little chapel on its grounds. We stumbled upon the chapel and lo and behold inside you will find the tomb of Leonardo Da Vinci! It seems Leo (as his friends used to call him) spent his last remaining years in Amboise; his home is here too with many of his inventions awaiting your perusal therein. Another plus, in the village there is a patisserie across from the ice cream parlor that has THE BEST chocolate covered eclair, no kidding---just plain AWESOME! Scenery, history and dessert, doesn't get any better than this---enjoy.

“Nice views”

We liked it more than Chambord. There is not much inside but it was all quite interesting. We were there at sunset and the views on Loire were amazing.

The castle and gardens o Chauteau d'Amboise are simple but serene, Right in the centre of Amboise so conveniently placed to enjoy the town for the day. A great place to see with a good history.

“nightime light spectacular”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

The whole village gets dressed up and puts on a show. complete with canon fire, smoke, lights and horses galloping about. A really fun experience. the kids loved it. Late at night though so not very good for anyone under 3 i think. Finished at 11.30pm, so an afterneen sleep is a good idea. Good idea to prebook on the internet and pick up tickets before hand to save waiting in the massive queue.
