Owner description: With the dawning of the Renaissance, the mighty medieval fortress of Amboise gave way to a royal residence, during the reigns of the Kings of France Charles VIII and François I. The Court, a large number of men and women of letters and European artists, stayed here on invitation from the sovereigns, one example being Leonardo da Vinci who lies here in peace in the Château’s Chapel. This place of high renown in the History of France boasts an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture illustrating the artistic finery of the first French Renaissance. After a visit of the Royal House and the impressive Cavalry Towers, the walk continues in the magnificent panoramic gardens overlooking the Loire river.

the gardens were absolutely beautiful, it is well worth taking at least an hour or 2 to take them in. I loved that we could also visit Leonardo Da Vincis tomb which is situated in the chateaus chapel. The chateau has been beautifully restored & is well worth a visit.

“Nice Views”

It wasn't as good as Chateau Versailles but still worth a look. We only spent an hour there but that was enough time to see everything. The views of surrounding Amboise were very nice.

High on a hill, the chateaux was fairy tale, views amazing and right in town. Quaint little chapel. We loved it.

“Majestic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

Chateau d'Amboise may be a little more rustic by some standards, however, when you know the history of this chateau it makes it a very remarkable chateau to visit and explore. Sitting on the banks of the Loire river, it is both enchanting and haunting. Our accommodation was on the street below the chateau, so when you looked up at this imposing structure, especially at night time when the lights are on inside the chateau, it is very intrigueing. Learn your history on this chateau before you go and you will love it, and it's town of Amboise.
