Our second visit to Le Choiseul and we loved it as much as the first. Situated at the base of Amboise Chateau you could not fault its location. We had a lovely traditional room overlooking the River Loire and it was beautiful to see the setting sun in the evening and, on occasions hot air balloons rise up from over the river. Ideally located to explore the Loire valley and its chateaux. The restaurant is excellent and it is very pleasant to have breakfast on the terrace among the flowers. A hotel is finally judged by how it treats mishaps, and when the maid caused a breakage, the hotel went to great trouble to find an exact replacement. We were most impressed. Together with friends, we had a lovely five days there, whilst visiting chateaux like Chambord, Villandry, Chenonceux and others. Altogether a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Traditional rooms overlooking the Loire.

Everything was perfect from the service to the room to the breakfast. Just a short walk to the center of town and the chateau. The staff went out of their way to welcome us and make our stay enjoyable!

We have tried many hotels in the Loire area but this our favourite. Everything was perfect as usual. There is secure parking, which my husband is always on the look-out for. We have asked for room 4 in past years which is very convenient for both the beautiful dining room ( with huge windows over-looking the Loire and if you're lucky the sunset) and the breakfast room which overlooks the gardens. We were lucky enough to be seated next to the window in the restaurant and that combined with lovely food made a perfect evening. Breakfast is very comprehensive with lots to choose from. Our room was large with its own "garden" and outside table and chairs. Unfortunately we could not use it because of the midges (it had been raining and the hotel is in close proximity to the river). The air-con and the bathroom facilities were great. Reading a previous review I feel that the reviewer was just very unlucky. We have always had the friendliest and attentive service from the staff, all of whom appear to be very happy to be there. Just like us!

Room Tip: Room 4 is our favourite but beware other guests trying to enter the hotel from the garden as the doo...

We were booked at Le Choisel for a three day period as part of our wider French honeymoon experience. It has been, without a doubt, absolutely outstanding. The service has been first rate at every turn, the food in Le36, the restaurant, is exceptional and the location is just perfect. I am not normally a Trip Advisor user, but felt compelled to do so in this case. The rooms are authentic, large and comfortable and the buildings themselves are beautiful. You are mere inputs away from the centre of Amboise, where we have found great meals and service, particularly Bruno's restaurant opposite the Chateau.

I can't speak highly enough of Le Choiseul.

On arrival the receptionist greeted us with a warm and welcoming smile (good start) We were upgraded to a superior room which was large and had real charm, with matching walls and curtains. We felt we had stepped back in time. It may have seen slightly better days but it really added to the charm of the hotel. It was clean, elegant and the bed was lovely.
If we had eaten there on the first evening we would not have gone anywhere else. The evening meal was excellent. We were seated at a window which looked over seine river and the service was as good as the Ritz.
On recommendation to friends, they also felt it was worth every penny and booked in again on their return trip back to the UK.
It is very close to the Chateau and the town, you can walk to both. It is a delightful town that I would return to at any time with pleasure.

Room Tip: Room 15 upstairs at the back of the hotel is quiet, but you also get a view at the front of the rive...

The hotel makes guests feel pampered with welcoming entry ways & rooms charmingly decorated (wallpaper matching the drapes matching the duvet) & a bathroom I wanted to live in…roomy with lots of vanity space - quite different than the hotels in Paris. Fluffy towels & plenty of them, along with robes, meant we enjoyed every minute we had in our room. The breakfast laid out each morning was fabulous & catered to both heavy & light appetites. The location is great for walking all over Amboise. Good thing since we needed to work off all the great food. Also, we arrived on Sunday & the rental car place wasn't open until Monday, so again, the proximity to local shops & restaurants is helpful.

The Michelin guide 2011 says this is a 3 star hotel. The hotel awards itself 4 stars, a hint of the pretention we discovered. This hotel is in a super location, but it is very expensive for what you get. The restaurant is overstaffed and over expensive. The wine glasses are tiny, the house wine poor but the price at 8 euros was big.

I could hardly get a good morning out of the chambermaid. But then she was on her way to remove the light brown (continental i assume) cockroach that crawled across my bed the night before, so maybe that is understandable. The sense of low staff morale was unmistakeable.

All in all you'd be better off in one of the smaller, jollier hostelries in the centre of Amboise, which is a fascinatruing town.
