“Beautiful hotel in a charming town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

I booked this hotel as a home base to visit the Loire Valley chateaux and I was not disappointed. When my husband and I arrived, we were shown to our "room" which turned out to be our own private little building! I'm not sure if all of the rooms are like this but I actually booked one of the less expensive rooms at a very reasonable price of 150EUR per night. When you walked in the door, there was a staircase leading up to a loft and seating area. (Interestingly we discovered on the second day that the channels in the loft appeared to be different than the channels on the tv in the bedroom, so if you are looking for English channels, go upstairs.) The first evening, we enjoyed a bottle of wine at a little table in the courtyard in front of our little "cottage." The staff was very accomodating, and the breakfast was extra but really exquisite... delicious and in a lovely little dining room. The hotel was quiet but really no more than a 2 minute walk from the center of Amboise... a small town but a lovely home base for visiting the chateaux and with a beautiful chateau of its own, as well as Le Clos Luce (Leonardo DaVinci's house), another great place to visit. Overall a wonderful experience at Le Pavillon des Lys!

We would definitely recommend staying here. Large, beautiful rooms and helpful staff. We were also pleased to have chosen Amboise as a base, neither Blois or Tours were as nearly charming. We stayed on the second (top) floor which was brilliant, but squeaky floorboards made us feel a little sorry for the people below so might be a good idea to request the upper floor. Another review suggested children were not welcome; we travelled with an 11 year old and this was not the experience we had. She was treated with the same respect as us. Assiette patter and wines were good value in-room. Only criticism is the restaurant recently closed and we asked the front desk to make a booking for us at a local restaurant for the next day but when we turned up they were not expecting us and were fully booked. Otherwise an excellent experience.

This was a one night stop over on our way through France. Lovely hotel, excellently appointed, room very stylish.. Just two niggles. Our bathroom was large and well equipped with a corner bath but the only shower was a hand held one over the bath, no shower curtain. The other niggle was no restaurant on site. Don't let this put you off though as there were lots of restaurants to choose from within easy walking distance, and the hotel staff will book for you. Free parking on site.

Room Tip: Ours was a second floor room with no lift. If climbing is a problem for you ask for a room on the f...

We stayed 7 nights at this hotel in a corner junior suite. We drove our car through the gate and realized this place was very special. The hotel staff throughout our stay were simply the best. The hotel is very charming and has an outdoor area to enjoy wine and cheese. We felt we were in a beautiful private home.
The location is in town and we easily walked to the attractions.
We would definitely stay there again. It was a wonderful hotel with excellent staff.

Room Tip: Book a junior suite for a special treat.

This hotel was our first hotel in our France 17 days trip and it was the best. We stayed in a Double Deluxe Bedroom located on the second floor of the Manor (night of May 17th 2013) which was very spacious, very clean, tastefully decorated and very quiet. We did not have breakfast but it looked lovely. The bathroom was extremely clean and we loved the wooden floor and the design in general. Bed was very large and the most comfortable that we had in France. The young man at reception upon arrival was gentle and kind. Guillaume, who we met in the morning - knows the business and it is our opportunity to wish him good luck. Guillaume your place is perfect! One last thing - location is perfect (walking to the river and to restaurants and any of the interest points of Amboise) and there is free parking on the premises.
We recommend Le Pavillon des Lys to anyone who seeks class, coziness, good service and comfort room.

Bottle of champagne in the lovely sunny garden, with friends. what more could you ask for. Breakfast in a beautiful room. plenty of choice. Staff very helpful. Would love to of stayed in a suite, maybe next time.

It was bliss to stay in this hotel after being in Paris, where hotel rooms would probably be banned as too small if they were bedrooms in houses. Our second floor room was very spacious, with (oh, the joy) plenty of drawer space so that we could actually unpack and not have to live out of a suitcase. Good sized bathroom, very well appointed with both bath and shower, and separate loo. There's no lift, but very helpful staff happily carry your bags to your room. Comfortable beds. Beautifully presented breakfast with juice, little pots of apple purée, cheese, ham, croissants, pain au chocolat, fresh fruit, cereals and lots more. On-site car parking, a real bonus. Tables where you can sit outside and enjoy a drink or just relax (though not exactly secluded, as they're en route to the parking - but it's not a problem). Several good restaurants are a very short stroll away, as is the main shopping street in Amboise and the chateau itself. I must agree with an earlier reviewer's comment about the infuriating wifi and its compulsory advertising, though. (And, mentioned in the same review, we weren't charged for the bottled water in our room, so either the policy has changed or there was a misunderstanding).
