The legacy of Loiseau is still a strong force at Le Relais Bernard Loiseau carried along by his wife Dominique and Executive Chef Patrick Berton - who was Loiseau's protégé for over twenty years. Le Relais Bernard Loiseau is the ultimate dining destination for any Gallic gastronaut. The rustic dining room is the perfect setting for celebrations and romantic meals, and Relais Bernard Loiseau boasts one of Burgundy's largest wine cellars with over 20,000 bottles in storage.

From the moment you enter, you are transported into a beautiful garden setting. The service is flawless and the food sublime. Being in Burgundy is a plus also.

I have long wanted to eat at Bernard Loiseau, even more so after reading "Au Revoir to All of That". While driving between two other 3-star restaurants on a culinary binge, I noticed that with a modest detour we could stop in Saulieu. We thought for certain we would be turned away at the door; however, the Fates were smiling upon us and there was actually an open table for lunch. Although our dinner reservations in Illhaeusern that very day precluded us from sampling as many things as we would have liked, we tried enough to know that this was cuisine at its finest. Our service was excellent and the ambiance outstanding, with lovely views over the gardens. At the end of our meal, Madame Loiseau spent quite a bit of time at our table talking, the act of a truly engaged proprietress. We have been to numerous other Michelin starred restaurants where such a courtesy was not extended. A classy operation all-around, and I hope one day to return.

We have had some bad experiences with three star restaurants in France, but this one clearly moved on to the 21th century and serves classic dishes in a modern twist and the portions are also adapted.
The tastes are delicious and the quality of the ingredients is impecable.
Service, atmosphere are elegant but not stiff

The package with the hotel stay is very interesting and makes the experience even better

For the sake of full disclosure, I stayed and ate there a few years ago so my review is a bit dated.

Food and service was incredible (as should all three star restaurants). With that said, three stars restaurants fall into two categories for me...either very extravagant (even stuffy) where you go once or twice in a lifetime versus those that make you feel special to where you want to go back every time you're in the country.

This hotel and restaurant definitely falls into the second category. It has all the things a three star should have in food and service without being stuffy...perfect combination for me. If it was in California, this would be a regular place to go.

Unfortunately, I haven't actually had the chance to go back but I definitely will the next time I'm in that part of France.

we just called in for an aperitif and to pay homage to the great man having read "the Perfectionist" in our book club. Eight ladies just wanting to nose around, arriving at 7pm?? Not everywhere would be glad to see us but the receptionist gave us a guided tour before guiding us to the terrace where we were very well looked after by the waiting staff. We ordered a bottle of wine and some water but it was exquisitely served with individual plates of 3 canapes/amuses-bouches. Although we only had an aperitif I can guarantee that at least 3 of us will be back for dinner and to stay. Bravo!
