The owl path is the best idea I’ve seen to accommodate tourists who are short on time to experience a city. Just find an owl placard on the ground, and follow where it points. No maps needed and no anxiety about getting lost! If you are traveling with kids, they will enjoy spotting the owls and following them to the next sight.
Dijon’s major sights are easily walked in 2 hours, and the owls make sure that you never get lost while exploring. I had only three hours’ train-stop in the city during my last visit, and I was so grateful to the owl for guiding me to all the destinations that I needed to see—so grateful, in fact, that I stopped by the Tourist Office to buy an inexpensive replica of the owl placard to take home with me. Great souvenir! (Just be sure to NOT put it in a carry-on when you return home on plane. Put it in checked luggage since the pointy end of the placard will set off security screening and your carry-on WILL BE SEARCHED).
TIP: Be sure to visit the city’s original owl, which the placard owls pay tribute to. He sits around six feet from the ground on one side of the Notre Dame Cathedral, which is conveniently located behind the Ducal Palaces in the heart of Dijon. It’s landmark #8 on the Owl Path. For good luck, rub the owl WITH YOUR LEFT HAND. Don’t forget! He will impart wisdom and a sharp sense of direction, so you’ll never get lost on your many future adventures!
