“Potential to be much better, but let down by lack of attention to details”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

Good location. Nice setting, calm. We had a "chambre privilege". Room apparently pleasant and reasonably well furnished. The flat screen TV was the smallest I had ever seen, about the size of a laptop screen. We didn't care as were not interested in TV lthat night. What really let the room down was the bathroom, which looked absolutely great BUT had a toilet seat too small for the toilet, such that it slides to the left or the right - annoying and uncomfortable. The following morning, the toilet flush system stopped working! Unpleasant ...!
The shower (in the bath) with a moving panel designed to limit flooding of the bathroom during a shower, resulted in considerable flooding as the seals all leaked. These are not enormous problems but nevertheless unpleasant and not what one expects in a hotel like this.

The restauarant, Les Oenophiles, was globally a positive experience. The food was really excellent, refined, original and well presented. The service was not up to the same standard as the kitchens. Although the food was "excellent", the service was not even average. Final surprise was the bill, which we only saw the following morning on checking out, when we noticed that two items, whiich were included in the "menu gourmand" we had chosen, had been added as separately priced items on th bill. When we pointed this out to the receptionist, the items were immediately deducted from the bill ...

This hotel could be so much better, but appears to lack serious attention to important details, which would not be difficult to fix.

Dear Sir or Madam,

We thank you for your comment left on TripAdvisor.

We took good note of each of your comments. As for the bathroom, the toilet seat has been changed since your stay in March and the toilet flush has been fixed.

Your positive feedback about the restaurant has been transfered to the Chef. Regarding your comments about the service, we are really sorry to read that it was not at the same level as the kitchen. Information have been transfered to the general manager.

We would be delighted to welcome you if you plan to visit our city once again.

Yours sincerely.

After a long drive from the UK this little later oasis was great with very welcoming and helpful staff. Easy parking in the public car park directly opposite the hotel. Rooms were basic but functional and a little quirky so a pleasant change from budget chains. Lovely gourmet dinner in the excellent restaurant.

Great hotel in Dijon. We were in an Executive Room, which we got for the same price as the category below, in the old part of the hotel. The building was very old and has no lifts, but that wasn't a problem. Very friendly staff, a modern room and a very comfortable bed.

Room Tip: Get a room in the old part of the hotel through the restaurant.

I stayed at Hotel Philippe le Bon in July this year with 3 friends. Our rooms were very comfortable with a great view over the garden. The hotel is very well situated within walking distance to the centre of town. The staff, particularly Alex, was very helpful. Alex organised wine glasses for us so we could have our own happy hour in the garden and then took us on an amazing tour of the wine cellars beneath the old part of the hotel. Thank you Alex.

Room was not one of the best in the hotel, although it may have been recently refurbished. It did not have adequate lighting. For a so-called 'executive room' no executive could have done any work in the darkness of the room.
Parking was also an issue. We have stayed at PLB several times in the past and they had a very small but secure and free parking area. We were offered an opportunity to park in a secure alleyway but on departure had to get the owner to move her car to allow us out and we were charged 11euros, the same rate as if we had parked in the public carpark opposite the hotel. Policy needed to be sorted out on this.

Room Tip: Ask for one in the original part of the building.

Dear Sir or Madam,

We thank you for your comment left on TripAdvisor.

In spite of your rating of 4 over 5, you were disapointed on two points.

Regarding the executive room, we are happy to read that you enjoyed the decoration. Following your remark, we have put more lighting in this room and we would like to thank you for your piece of advice.

As for the car park, we indeed do not have anymore the small parking we used to have. It has been now 4 years without it and we offer now our guests to park in the safe public car park in front of the hotel for the same price. This car park is secured and closed during the night (but you can still enter and go out with your entrance ticket).
11€ is pretty cheap for a 24 hour car park in a city centre and since you came in the past, we offered you to have your private car park for the same price within the hotel.
We do the same with other guests if they have valuables in their cars or for disabled people.

Despite these small issues, we hope to welcome you pretty soon.

Yours sincerely

Stayed here one night on a trip back from Monza. Dijon is beautiful but this hotel was a let down. We had paid in advance (bad idea). We had loads of luggage because we were in the car and staff basically watched us struggle. Room was basic at the front of the hotel. The place was more like a hostel not a hotel. Guess it depends on your budget but you can get better for much less in France. Wouldn't recommend.

Room Tip: I think if you want to pay more there are rooms in the older part possibly better. My advise dont pa...

Dear Sir,

We thank you for your comment left on TripAdvisor.

We are sad to read that your stay at our hotel was such a let down for you and that no positive aspect is related in your comment.

You had booked one of our Standard Rooms which are at the front of the hotel, with a view on the nice private mansions of Dijon. The rooms may be basic but have all the comfort required for a 4 star hotel : hairdryer, air-conditioning, slippers, a free bottle of water, mini-bar, French and International TV channels, toilets separated from the bathroom, room-service and so on.

Regarding your luggage, it seems weird that no one from the staff asked if you needed help, especially if you were struggling with them. We have many people asking for a private car park when they have loads of luggage, back from their summer holidays, and each time, we are pleased to let our hosts park their car in our garage or at the entrance of the garden : it then allows them take the minimum needed for a one stop night.

We sincerely hope to welcome you again.

Yours sincerely
