“ideal stopover enroute to the Alps”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

After a long drive from the UK this little later oasis was great with very welcoming and helpful staff. Easy parking in the public car park directly opposite the hotel. Rooms were basic but functional and a little quirky so a pleasant change from budget chains. Lovely gourmet dinner in the excellent restaurant.

Great hotel in Dijon. We were in an Executive Room, which we got for the same price as the category below, in the old part of the hotel. The building was very old and has no lifts, but that wasn't a problem. Very friendly staff, a modern room and a very comfortable bed.

Room Tip: Get a room in the old part of the hotel through the restaurant.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for your comment left on TripAdvisor.

We are pleased to see that you really enjoyed your executive room and the charm of the hotel. Although the building dates back from the 15th century, our rooms have a modern design and decoration.

I stayed at Hotel Philippe le Bon in July this year with 3 friends. Our rooms were very comfortable with a great view over the garden. The hotel is very well situated within walking distance to the centre of town. The staff, particularly Alex, was very helpful. Alex organised wine glasses for us so we could have our own happy hour in the garden and then took us on an amazing tour of the wine cellars beneath the old part of the hotel. Thank you Alex.

Room was not one of the best in the hotel, although it may have been recently refurbished. It did not have adequate lighting. For a so-called 'executive room' no executive could have done any work in the darkness of the room.
Parking was also an issue. We have stayed at PLB several times in the past and they had a very small but secure and free parking area. We were offered an opportunity to park in a secure alleyway but on departure had to get the owner to move her car to allow us out and we were charged 11euros, the same rate as if we had parked in the public carpark opposite the hotel. Policy needed to be sorted out on this.

Room Tip: Ask for one in the original part of the building.

Dear Sir or Madam,

We thank you for your comment left on TripAdvisor.

In spite of your rating of 4 over 5, you were disapointed on two points.

Regarding the executive room, we are happy to read that you enjoyed the decoration. Following your remark, we have put more lighting in this room and we would like to thank you for your piece of advice.

As for the car park, we indeed do not have anymore the small parking we used to have. It has been now 4 years without it and we offer now our guests to park in the safe public car park in front of the hotel for the same price. This car park is secured and closed during the night (but you can still enter and go out with your entrance ticket).
11€ is pretty cheap for a 24 hour car park in a city centre and since you came in the past, we offered you to have your private car park for the same price within the hotel.
We do the same with other guests if they have valuables in their cars or for disabled people.

Despite these small issues, we hope to welcome you pretty soon.

Yours sincerely

Stayed here one night on a trip back from Monza. Dijon is beautiful but this hotel was a let down. We had paid in advance (bad idea). We had loads of luggage because we were in the car and staff basically watched us struggle. Room was basic at the front of the hotel. The place was more like a hostel not a hotel. Guess it depends on your budget but you can get better for much less in France. Wouldn't recommend.

Room Tip: I think if you want to pay more there are rooms in the older part possibly better. My advise dont pa...

Dear Sir,

We thank you for your comment left on TripAdvisor.

We are sad to read that your stay at our hotel was such a let down for you and that no positive aspect is related in your comment.

You had booked one of our Standard Rooms which are at the front of the hotel, with a view on the nice private mansions of Dijon. The rooms may be basic but have all the comfort required for a 4 star hotel : hairdryer, air-conditioning, slippers, a free bottle of water, mini-bar, French and International TV channels, toilets separated from the bathroom, room-service and so on.

Regarding your luggage, it seems weird that no one from the staff asked if you needed help, especially if you were struggling with them. We have many people asking for a private car park when they have loads of luggage, back from their summer holidays, and each time, we are pleased to let our hosts park their car in our garage or at the entrance of the garden : it then allows them take the minimum needed for a one stop night.

We sincerely hope to welcome you again.

Yours sincerely

Walking distance from great restaurants, cafes, shopping, anything you will need. Friendly English-speaking staff, good amenities, clean, quiet. The WiFi is good. The garden patio is very nice. Breakfast buffet is simple but they use quality products.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard

We chose this hotel off its Trip Advisor rating for a two night stopover in Dijon. It's location is great, a stones through away from the centre. The hotel is an old building with a charming courtyard and old world feel, a really lovely setting. However the room we were given was tiny and badly laid out with a run down hallway. Very different to all standard of rooms on the website. The breakfast, which was not inclusive was very mediocre both in selection and quality. The most disappointing thing however was the service which was in between non-existent and awful. The hotel staff were unfriendly, rude and unhelpful. Not even offering to get us drinks when the bar was shut. The bar and courtyard area seemed permanently shut so we could not get any use of the nice on site facilities. The 4 star rating this hotel notionally has seems entirely down to the restaurant, which if breakfast was anything to go by was not up to much. Avoid if you can staying here....it will make you angry in what is otherwise a lovely city.

Dear Sir or Madam,

First of all, I would like to thank you for your comment left on TripAdvisor. It helps us to improve our service and establishment.

We are happy to read to you loved the setting and our location. However, we are astonished that the other parts of your stay did not meet your expectations.

Regarding the staff, they always have the will of welcoming our guests as friends. The many comments left on TripAdvisor show this friendliness and we absolutely do not understand how you could have found them the way you describe them.

There are always two persons at the front desk, and when the bar is closed, one of the two always has the pleasure to serve a drink in our garden upon request. However, we would like you to notice that there is always someone at the restaurant or at the bar, everyday, from 10am to 3pm, even 3.30pm, and from 6.30pm to midnight. And in the morning, from 7 to 10, the courtyard and the garden are left for those who want to take breakfast outside. Therefore, it is impossible to say that it seems permanently closed. Furthermore, if you wanted to drink something during the time the bar staff are not in the establishment, the front desk staff would have served you with pleasure.
As well, we always leave chairs, tables and sofa so that you can read, drink, chat with friends or relatives or surf on the internet, outside, either in the gothic listed courtyard or in the garden.

Then, the pictures of the rooms shown on our website are the true ones : the pictures were taken in May for our new website.

Finally, we are sad to read to you did not enjoy the breakfast too. We have fresh bakeries delivered by a boulangerie nearby every day at 6am. It has croissants, pain au chocolat, brioche and 3 different kinds of bread. We also offer boiled eggs and scrambled eggs, toasts, fresh fruit salad, cooked meats, butter, 6 different jams, honey, cheeses, fruit juices, coffee, tea, cereals, dry fruits…

We are sincerely sorry and sad that we have not been able to make you have an enjoyable stay but really hope to welcome you again.

Yours sincerely
