Grand Hotel La Cloche Dijon - MGallery Collection

Certificate of Excellence

We loved this hotel! The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. We were within walking distance to the pedestrian streets and the parcours de chouettes (the owl pathway). Our GPS made finding the hotel easy, but if you don't have one, get detailed directions. The drive in was pretty direct and easy. I would recommend this hotel and the city of Dijon to anyone who likes places that are not packed with tourists.

Our most recent experiences of sofitel have all been very good. La Cloche in Dijon continues with the theme. The staff are the real plus, extremely helpful and they make the effort to know your name (its quite a small hotel after all).
The hotel is in a great location (despite much of Dijon being a building site for a new tramway) and the rooms comfortable and recently renovated. We were not charged for any car parking or valet services and the WIFI is free, all chargeable extras in may other places.
I am sure this is the best option in Dijon.

I stayed in Dijon in late June. There was so much construction and traffic diversions, that I had trouble getting to the public parking (at Place Darcy) near the hotel. I ended up parking at the Gare de Dijon and taking a taxi to the hotel - only 5 Euros.

The hotel is in an excellent location, 5 minutes from the train station and within 7 minutes walk to Place de la Liberation and many restaurants, shops and historic sites. The Place itself is encircled by cafes, but the side streets are worth exploring for quieter, less touristy watering holes.

The hotel is of 3-start standard physically, but the service is 4-star or higher. The staff is excellent, professional, helpful and speak fluent english (at the front desk). The room I had was pleasant, but needs updating. The bathroom was above average (robe and slippers provided). My room overlooked Place Darcy and was a good size by European standards. Sound insulation was excellent. While the general upkeep of the hotel is good, it does show its age in places.

The hotel garden restaurant is first class. The service was the best I experienced in France over a 10 day trip (and I ate at several top notch restaurants). It seemed only the main waiter spoke English, but was polite enough to tolerate my halting French. The menu was haute cuisine and the wine list was excellent (based on my recent trip through Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Meursault etc). I'd highly recommend the restaurant, but fore-warned, it is not cheap.

In all, do not expect a luxurious hotel, but it is comfortable, well placed and with an excellent restaurant.

We stayed here in June as part of a euro road trip just for the one night.
The hotel itself is very well presented and the reception staff were extremely polite and helpful. I tried my best french and they politely encouraged me to speak english. The reception area itself is very grand, clean and welcoming.
The room we had was at the back of the hotel overlooking the garden which is fully enclosed and secluded and doubles as a patio for drinks and to eat snacks from the bar. As a result it was very quiet and we had a fantastic nights sleep. My wife heard a dog barking briefly from within the hotel in the early hours but nothing else. The room was generally clean and tidy but parts of it were looking tired and ready for a refit as were the corridors but for the price it was ok.
We ate in the restaurant and again the service was some of the best we have ever had as was the food. It was expensive but well worth every penny - everything cooked to perfection.
The bar also serves snacks but we just had a couple of drinks which again were expensive but great surroundings and attentive service.
Our car was parked by the bell boy in their own secure car park and this was included in the price. They fetch it for you whenever you want it.
Only one gripe with the hotel. Wi-Fi in this day and age should be free.!
The major problem we had was not the fault of the hotel or even something they can do anything about but if you are taking your car beware. There are extensive road works taking place throughout the centre of dijon and as a result drivng around was a complete nightmare. It took us 1 hour and 40 minutes to get the last two miles to the hotel because of one way systems and diversions. The works didnt impare in any other way though.
Overall we loved it and would stay again if in the area. We didnt get much time to look at Dijon itself but the bits we saw we loved, a bit like York in England.

We stopped at the Sofitel Dijon on our way to and from Italy. A good hotel, wonderful service with a valet car parking service which was essential for our needs. The restaurant was excellent and all the staff went out of their way to make our brief stay as relaxed as possible. My only criticism is the size of the room, a little tired and on the small size however totally comfortable with pillows and a duvet to die for. Breakfast was included in the room rate. Dijon is undergoing some major road works which made finding the hotel a little difficult via satnav due to the diversions so be warned! There are ample shops, restaurants, bistros and all walking distance from the hotel. An added bonus is the live music on virtually every street corner, great free entertainment on a hot summers evening.

The most comfortable bed to sleep in, good breakfast, good but expensive dinner.... The wine list is outrageous with no selection of reasonably priced wines - just very weak red burgundy, same in the bar where the service is very poor.
