“If you are visiting Dijon, do a wine tour with Authentica”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2014

We were initially put off doing a wine tour in Dijon by the cost (comparing it to wine tastings we had done in England, which are always over priced) but the tour we did with Authentica was more than worth the money. With two tastings (7 wines and 4 wines respectively), travel, expert advice, a little museum, amazing cheese and chocolates I'd say we got a bargain!

We took the half day wine tasting with cheese and wine. We were lucky to have Gabriel as our amazing guide for the morning who was knowledgeable, friendly and really made the experience special for us. If I was returning to Dijon I would book another tour with Authentica to explore more vineyards.

Salut Stephanie, salut David,
Thank you for your lovely comment. Thank you also for taking the time to write a blog about your Authentica trip. I loved reading it!

I’m really pleased you enjoyed the “Burgundy” morning tour with me and found it value for money. We try to make sure our clients get as much as possible out of the tour, without feeling rushed.
It was a bonus to get the “private tour experience” with only 2 of you on the tour! It was actually our special birthday treat for you ;)
You’re right, Burgundy wines are so expensive in the UK. We suggest our guests buy here at estate prices and ship it (cost for shipping is only about 3€ per bottle for the UK…).
Happy to know you liked my restaurant suggestion as well. It’s is one of my favorite places in Dijon.

If you come back for the marathon again next year let us know.

“THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2014

Thanks to a little inheritance, we asked Authentica to plan for us 'a trip of a lifetime'. Having worked in the UK wine trade for many years my wife and I had visited Burgundy before but never with enough time to fully enjoy the countryside, the food, and of course diversity of producers and their wines.
The hotel recommendations suited us perfectly, particularly Les Jardin de Lois in Beaune.
Our host for the week, Ivan, added much to our enjoyment with his local knowledge and geological experience - it's amazing how much you can learn about the different types of limestone and its influence on the wines !
Authentica's excellent planning of the itinerary far exceeded our expectations in combining our exisiting professional experience and their local expertise, without once duplicating any aspect or element. We were able to cover a complete spectrum of vine growers, wine makers, and negotiants - from the one-man band to the largest corporations in the region, and everything in between.
We unreservedly recommend Authentica's services

Bonjour Pat, bonjour Mike,
It really was a wonderful week and a pleasure to guide you through the region and share wine industry experiences.
Hopefully this was an opportunity for you to finally spend some quality time in the vineyards and to enjoy Burgundy whilst not being here on business! ;)
The small network of wineries and cellars we work with are each very individual in the wines they produce and show the different sides of Burgundy’s wine production. It’s fascinating to see.
I wish you both the best and would be delighted to welcome you back to Burgundy in the future.
Thank you for your nice comments and visiting us.

“Wine tourist will love this adventure.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014

Authentica does an excellent job finding families in the Cote de Nuits who are willing to share their homes and vineyards with international tourist enthusiastic about learning Burgundian wines. Gabriel helped us, picking us up in Dijon and taking us around the vineyards. The two properties we visited were Clos St Louis in Fixin and Domaine Rene LeClerc in Gevrey Chambertin. Both were excellent visits, informative and interesting and Gabriel was nice enough to bring some different cheese and chocolates to pair up with the wines. I highly recommend this wine tour.

Bonjour Stephen,

Thank you for your kind comment and for recommending us. When it comes from an experienced wine professional like yourself, it’s even better!
I hope you have great memories of the “Gevrey-Chambertin 1989” that we were lucky enough to share, it was certainly very special.
I’m happy to see you enjoyed both of the winery visits we did together. It is important for us to work with individual family-run wineries where our clients can often meet the owners and winemakers (as well as working with the famous Burgundy wine houses).

Come back to Burgundy soon. We have more wine, cheeses and chocolate ready ;)

“Excellent Burgundy vineyard tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2014

The tour with Ivan was the highlight of our visit to Dijon. Ivan was an excellent guide who shared his deep knowledge of the region and who brought the wines of Burgundy to life in a special way.
I guess we were extra fortunate that it was effectively a private tour with just my wife and I, but we will not hesitate to recommend the tour to any of our friends who might be visiting Dijon in the future.

Cher Roger,
Did you take some Maille or Amora Mustard back to South Africa? ;)
It’s wonderful to read the Discovery tour you did with us was the highlight during your stay in Dijon. Our small group tours are limited to 8 people only. We want to keep it that way to ensure personal attention and service to each of our guests.
If your friends would ever like to visit Burgundy I would be more than happy to welcome them on an Authentica tour.
Many thanks again for your kind words.

“A Necessary investment to embrace Burgundy Wines”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2014

When we say 'necessary investment,' we mean it both financially and experientially to get access to the heart of Burgundy wine making. Let’s get the money part out of the way, wine tours cost money and in traditional wine regions such as Burgundy, they are a bit costly –HOWEVER – France unlike the USA is not used to inviting the average wine taster into the vineyard for a tasting. This is a generations old business which has rife with wealth, privilege and tradition where distributors and retailers served as the gateway to great French wines. This is changing slowly, but a guide is your best route to gaining access to Burgundy or any wine region in France. Just remember, just because you are going to the source for many of these wines, they are not inexpensive – though still less expensive than any retail shop you will find locally and far cheaper than you can find outside the country.

Beyond the money, Burgundy is a very diverse region. Stephan (or Steven for those of us from the USA) was tremendously capable and talented at connecting the wine to the individual terrior – weather, soil, practices, and essence of the region for each appellation. He was able to guide a number of tastings at the wineries, give insights, and recommendations based on what our preferences were as the tastings evolved.

NET: Allocate the budget for a wine tour, do research on the region and come up with great questions, and bring additional budget as well as cases to bring some wine home – most places do NOT ship. Another side note would be to go off season if you want a more private experience, summer and harvest are peak times and you could expect a crowd if you go on a tour then. ENJOY the wine, ask for Stephan, and immerse yourself in this great part of the world.

Bonjour Bob & Julia,

Thank you for taking time to leave an insightful comment which we are certain will be helpful for other Tripadvisor users.
I’m so pleased you found the Passion tour informative and engaging, it’s always my aim.
You’re very right in that wine tourism in Burgundy is less developed compared to Bordeaux, Provence, the US or the southern hemisphere. Estates don’t have the space or budget to do a big “wine experience”, so you have to be content with some good or great wine…which is the main reason our guests visit us, after all! ;-)
Burgundy has a particularity in that almost all the wineries are small, family-run affairs that produce a small amount of wine. The most sought-after wineries have already pre-sold their wine to importers and clients around the world and therefore simply don’t have any wines to sell, let alone taste…!
We really like introducing our clients the unique family-run estates at the heart of our region.
I hope you enjoyed the wines you purchased. We work with several partners who are able to ship wine orders to many locations across the world, so that our clients continue to enjoy the taste of Burgundy back home.
All the best,

Stephen – French wine consultant for Authentica
