“A Mistake”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

We arrived at the hotel for a 4 night stay. there was nobody at reception on arrival. We shouted for staff and looked around for a staff memeber. All of this time there were leaving guests suit cases and room keys available to be taken. After a good 10 mins a flustered female recieptionist appearded and checked us in. I had booked a parking place an she told me i could use the public car park. This was later corrected. At no point during our stay were we told where the hotel restaraunt and bar were, its a 60 mtr walk from the main hotel. The room was clean and comforable but dark and depressing. The location is ok with the main town a short walk away. The food in the town is poor at best, desigend for the tourist and in the main its chips with something as they know you will probably only eat there once. The wine trail is good although the wine in Beaune is expensive for the tourist so buy in the supermarket or direct from the producer. if you know France Beaune is not that that special and can be seen in 2 day's and then move on. The best thing about this hotel was leaving it.

Room Tip: Get another hotel.

We only intended to stay one night but ended up staying four. All four were spent in the main hotel which looks as the web site shows - recently updated, clean rooms with numerous amenities including motorized window shades for the large windows. The older gentleman at the desk seemed indifferent at first but was actually very accommodating. The first two nights were spent in a 2nd floor standard double room with a shower looking down on the main street. We just happened to be there when they were repaving the road so there was construction noise in the morning but it was quiet during the night.
When we decided to extend our stay for 2 more nights, the room we were in was booked so the gentlemen moved us to superior double room, gave us a discount, and had our baggage moved for us. This room was on the 1st floor near the courtyard and breakfast room. The highlight of this room was the large bathroom with a luxurious tub (no shower). As with most hotels in France, if you want a standup shower make sure you get a room with a "douche". This room was a bit dark as it only had a single window looking onto the courtyard.
The location is fantastic - everything is right outside the front door by but the hotel is set away from main hustle and bustle. The breakfast, a decent standard French continental breakfast, was a little pricey and with the easy access to boulangeries and cafes you would probably do better eating out.

Room Tip: From reading other reviews it sounds like you want a room in the main hotel

We came to this hotel on the recommendation of Rick Steves book. The rooms were charming and the price average. There was a lobby where you could buy wine that closed at 10. The man at the desk was ruse to us from start to finish. We asked for a chiller for our wine and he literally gave me a handful of ice in a little cup. Then we wanted to buy wine in the lobby and he would not sell it because it was 9:54 pm.
So if you want to feel at home and have great service Don't Go Here! It is clean and rooms are nice if that is what you need. I hope Rick will not recommend him next year.

This place has several buildings, when the main house is booked they send you around the corner in the loge bourgogne and offer your the old fashioned room for 105 euros (without breakfast). We booked the room via internet, the information has been given, but the pictures displayed the main house. These rooms have been renovated and do not look as some pictures on the tripadvisor, but they have nothing to do with these well designed rooms in the main house. When you check in, look for a man (might be an owner) who does not bother to give you a smile - interesting experience :-)

We stayed in the Annex, which was over the restaurant (more on that later). You have to carry luggage up a long flight of stairs. The rooms were small, but nicely done and clean. Our bed was fine but our friends found their mattress was too soft. The bathroom had a tub with a shower attachment but the shower was low so that a tall person would have to crouch. I'm just over 5' and could use it as a shower but my husband is 5'11' and ended up taking a bath instead. The location was great, just outside the old city walls. The restaurant had good food but the service was pretty bad. She was cheerful enough when she noticed us but we kept having to flag her down after waiting for ages - for water, bread, missing entrees, missing desserts. We complained so maybe it will get better. The breakfast was in the main hotel (two blocks away), which was fine and you had your choice of just a drink and some pastries (which was all we wanted) or a full spread of cheeses, yogurts, breads, etc. which looked tasty as well. i'm giving them a good service rating because the rest of the hotel was just fine.

Room Tip: Unless your luggage is light, find out how many stairs you need to climb with it.

The Hotel is located within easy walking distance to good dining. The Hotel Owner\Manager does speak some English. Parking is secure. We liked the bakery across the street for morning breakfast. The Hotel lacks ice for it's guest. You will be given only a double handful of ice. The Hotel is very clean and after 10 PM no one on duty. Similar to a B & B instead of a full service Hotel.

My wife & I stayed 1 night on our way from Montluçon to Luxembourg. Friendly reception in a great value hotel very close to the historic town. Need to pre-book parking though.
